What is the best way to remove powder burns from around the cylinder...it is a Colt Mk III in nickle finish....also can one remove small scratches from the nickle finish without messing things up?

Shooters choice should get rid of the powder residue, if its been ont here too long will be really hard to get off. maybe krokus cloth, not sure of nickel finish be carefull.

Rig Lead-Wipe works for me on the cylinder discoloration.

For the small scratches you might try/test polishing with 1,200 grit paper.

I have to agree with the rest, Lead Wipes do it everytime! ;)

IIRC, the 'Lead-Wipes' are somewhat harmful to a nickle finish, as is Hoppe's or other solvents. Flitz metal polish works wonders. :)

For stainless steel use a gray ink eraser. You know, the eraser with a pink end for pencil and a gray end for ink. Cost: 59 cents.
