and his USCG Reserve unit will be activated and shipping out, to someplace in the middle east. His unit was called up before and he was helping to provide ship board security while in port picking up supplies. Since then he has been training for more land type operations, again providing ship security while in dock, I believe.

We knew that his uint would be activated but we just did not know when. At least we were pretty sure his unit was going to be activated anyway.

So, would you sorta keep Daniel Harton, USCG, in your thoughts and prayers.

And if any of our other members have friends and/or relatives being sent to the middle east at this time, feel free to add their names (first only if that is want you want) to this thread.

Jim,

Dan, Eliz, yourself and the rest of your family are in my prayers.

And if you wouldn't mind adding Chip (Ted's cousin) to your lists too, I'd appreciate it.

Sandy,
Can we make this a sticky??? (or make a new list, like Rammy did with the b-day list) I personally would like to keep the reminder fresh for everyone and have anyone else add their loved ones to this as well. I have no one to add to the list at this time, but I will keep young people in my prayers.

Amen. I was in that part of the world in 88 - they didn't like us much when we got there, and they liked us a whole lot less when we left! :redevil:
Best of luck, and don't drink Saudi Coke - it's horrible.

Me too. I will defently keep y'all in my prayers. I know what it's like to have someone in the Gulf.

Be safe and God go with the both of you.

Dan has to report Wednesday 02/05 at 4PM, and then they will be going through a series of shots and check ups for 3 weeks before being shipped out. He will be gone for as little as 6 months and as long as 2 years. One year is the bet, but we hope that 6 months is correct.

Anyway, it's stuck now :salute:

I will pray for Dan and I'd like to add another Dan to the list.

My good friend Dan Costin will most likely be shipping out end of March.

Living and working on the largest Naval Base in the world, I have to many friends to list individually. Everyday I hear of another one that is getting ready to ship out...so I would like to add a blanket prayer for all that are serving in our Armed Forces, both here and abroad for their safety and return to their loved ones...

Amen.

This was forwarded from a loop I'm in... the sender didn't know who the author was, so neither do I... but I wanted to copy it for you all...

Got Your Back

I am a small and precious child,
my dads been sent to fight.
The only place I see his face,
is in my dreams at the night.
He will be gone too many days
For my young mind to keep track.
I may be sad, but I am proud.
My daddyıs got your back...

I am a caring mother.
My son is gone to war.
My mind is filled with worries
that I have never known before.
Everyday I try to keep my thoughts
from turning to black.
I may be scared, but I am proud.
My son has got your back...

I am a strong and loving wife,
with a husband soon to go.
There are times that Iım terrified
in a way most never know.
I bite my lip, and force a smile
as I watch my husband pack.
My heart may break, but I am proud
My husbands got your back...

You probably didn't realize who was sitting next to you. You rattled on about how silly this anti-terrorist war is, and that it's just a political ploy. you said you'd never let your son run off to fight, and you'd throw a fit if they just sent your husband off.

At that point, I almost turned around and told you who I am. I am a military spouse. Life in the military has never been easy. It means low pay with no overtime, watching your husband go to work with a fever because the doctor didn't deem him sick enough for the day off. It means years of rules and
protocol that wear on you like a dripping faucet late at night.
Don't even get me going on the weekly inspection of our yards.

We live with terms like "Exercise" which means 12 hour shifts. And "TDY," which means your spouse is gone for up to 180 days. And "Remotes," which means your spouse is gone for longer than 180 days. And finally, "PCS," which means your whole family is going on this ride. Don't get me wrong; whining is not my intent here. While the road we've been down in the military hasn't always been paved; it's been a good life.

We know how precious good friends are even when miles separate us. It wasn't always in vogue to be patriotic. Sept. 11 helped turn that tide, but flags are fading around here again.
My husband is TDY (temporary duty) right now. I'm not allowed to tell you where.

I'm 155 days into a 240-day TDY. There have been too many times I have needed him here. Forget the running of the home fort- there is kisses and hugs that should be taking place. I lie in bed and try to recall what his breathing sounds like next to me- or I hear the door open and try to envision him walking in from work. What I would give to hear his clear voice without telephone static and worrying about how much the phone call will cost us. Then the deep fear -what if this separation becomes permanent? Distance is a horrible thief of what is precious, because it only reminds us of how precious it is.
You kept on talking for a while. I then realized I was picking up your tab.

You could sit there freely and give your opinion because of the
military families like ours. We are paying the price for your freedom. I've heard it said that Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, and Airmen of the past, present and future pay for the flag.
Nah, we're the threads it's woven with.

It sure aint goin' to be the same at the range this summer, my brother-in law got his orders Tuesday, he has to report for pre-deployment on Saturday morning. We always shoot together twice a week, and buy our ammo together, he even bought me an M-4 for Christmas.
Matt is more like a brother than a brother in law. I even thought we might bump into Miquela over at a Cherry Valley shoot one weekend this summer. Matt was going to give IDPA a try with me, it's good for an old man to have a young 30-ish guy around for support.
I hope this mess is over with quick,I'm having trouble keeping focused at work. Oh well, My wife gets to drive his Audi Quatro for awhile. I get the guns to hold, won't be much fun tho'. this sucks.
I'll be saying more prayers for our people over there. This is really more about him, not me, anyway it's just a vent.

My youngest daughter called today, from Darmstadt Germany, her husband is a SSG and they have been in Germany about three months. She asked me if I had ever heard of a "spousal reference card" I had not. It is a card for her best friends name address and phone number, just in case someday a chaplain and an officer knock on her door to say, "We regret to inform you, etc. etc." so they can have her best friend with them for her moral support. Her husband got orders this morning for Kuwait. He will be on the ground there by 3/13/03, for an "indeterminate period".This hit her harder than it would most, because she has no friends there yet, and no one to put on the card, having only been there since mid December.
Her husband goes by the name "Maverick" and I told her to tell him what my dad told me, when I was facing Nam.

"Your job is not to die for your country, your job is to live to fight tomorrow, and if you can, make the other guy die for his country today."

I do not want him to be a hero, I want him to be a survivor, and return safely to my daughter and two granddaughters.

Apparently I did something wrong a while back, about a month, (early April?) I think. I came here and posted the fact that my son-in-law in Iraq had been given a new name by his buddies. He is now being known as "Tank Killer". My daughter in Germany was pretty broke up when he called and told her that. Like all other wives that sit and wait, I suppose, she had herself convinced he was a safe distance from the fighting.
She called me today, he called her today (May 12), and told her that he found out a week ago that their bullet proof vests do work. He is fine, he said he had a nice bruise for a few days, and it has been long enough to know there is no trauma damage. He also said that he has been put in for a bronze star by the warrant officer (06) that was with him.
He is working downtown Baghdad with the Iraqi freedom fighters, and had no other information he could speak of, except that the shooting is not over. :salute:

Just noticed this thread or I would've replied earlier.

My brother in law is in the 101st airborne division, working on Kiowas. He's been in Iraq since the whole thing started. No sign of him coming home anytime soon, at this point. Sucks for my sister but shes in a military wives group and they help out alot. As everyone else said, all my prayers are with them over there.

I'm sure that some of you remember Son. He gave up a real good paying job to re-join the army. Screwed up his leg in training, got that fixed, went to Korea, screwed up his leg again now needing surgery. Got all fixed and doing well. Then he got sent to the "big sandbox". I heard from him today. Looks like he made Sergeant by the upside down double v on his boonie cap.

Anyway, he said he's lost count of the number of loud and noisy missions he was on. Enjoying a month of relative calm with only an occasional sound of gunfire. He doesn't know long he will be there but he really doesn't expect to be home soon. He's being transfered to another camp from his current one.

He looks well in the 'photo.

This is probaly a bad place to add an obviously controversial questions but...

Anyone here support the troops but still oppose our troops being in Iraq ?

I dont want any americans to be killed obviously but I certainly wouldnt have been
the first to suggest they be sent and stay this long in Iraq.

I hope its obvious this isnt a question of anyones bravery or willingness to serve
but just my opinoin on our guys continuing to have to be there.
