I bought some 22 ammo for my new 22 pistol today and like a big dummy I did not read close enough.:psycho: I got CCI AR Tactical 22. Says it is Optimized for reliable function in AR-22 platforms. Says it is 1200 FPS. Is this going to be safe to use in my hand gun? Sure don't want to mess up a new gun.

Sounds like "high pressure" ammunition to me. (I'd be willing to bet that it would be okay, if used on a 'limited basis').

It'll be fine. Depending on your particular .22 pistol, maybe not quite zippy enough.

It is the Ruger SR22.

Interesting!
CCI says the tacticals are optimized to use with the S&W M&P 15/22.
I guess, higher quality control?
The muzzle velocity of the tactical is actually less than Mini-Mags.
The tactical is a bit more on the price.
I'd shoot them through my .22 pistol. No problem.
But if your still in doubt HK4U, send them to me, I'll dispose of them for you. :D

The muzzle velocity of the tactical is not that much different than standard velocity round.

I knew I could get some help with my problem.:D

Are those the .40 grain flavor? If so my AR conversion really likes those.

Its ammo that is marketed for the S&W M&P 15-22 rifles. There is no reason why it should not work through your pistol.

i went to the cci site and looked up the AR Tactical ammo..........it would appear to be the only cci ammo sold in a bulk carton, and i would not consider bulk-packed loose ammo as "precision".

but the name AR Tactical is definately a head-turner and attention getter. I am surprised that hornady has not put the "zombie" concept into the bulk 22 LR production.......i think that cci makes the hornady rimfire ammo as well.

As much as i despise the "zombie" advertising concept, it is apparently doing it's intended purpose..............selling on the gimmick angle.

I decided to send an e-mail to CCI just to see what they said and here is the reply.

It is absolutely safe to use our AR Tactical 22 LR in Ruger or any other 22 LR handgun. Only real difference in the AR Tactical vs. our other 22 LR ammunition is the different nose contour to help facilitate loading with the AR-15/22 style rifles and handguns.

well...............next trip/payday to wally-world, i'll pick up a box and compare that bullet to the various 22 LR i have on hand.......providing they have it or it ain't priced in the clouds.

I did not see any at Wal mart last time I was there. I went to Cheaper Than Dirt here in Fort Worth yesterday and that is where I got it. It was not all that cheap. About 25 bucks for I think 325 rounds. I also got some cheap ammo to to try.

I'd say it would be hard to overload a .22 shell to the extent you would risk blowing up a pistol.

Different nose contour, huh? OK.
I'll hafta try some of the Tactical stuff trough my CavMaster.

My wife runs CCI stinger hypervelocity 32 grain 1640 FPS through her Walther P22 with no problem. In fact,CCI run the best when the pistol was new.Bulk .22 wouldn't work the slide all the time.

The guy at cheaper than dirt told me when I was there that the best way to make sure you have 22 ammo that will function is buy CCI.

I'll second that! :up::up::up:

I remember buying some cheap bulk .22LR.
I'm not gonna mention any brand but the first three letters are REM.
The rounds were inconsistent, meaning having to stop to check the barrel to be sure the bullet wasn't stuck in the bore. And lotsa duds! I ended up leaving the box at the range.
Never had that problem with CCI.
