Tried a Para-Ordnance

Had to "county qualify" with my duty gun Wednesday, so I spent the morning paper punching with my Smith M-28. One of the Sergeants knew I was interested in the Para-Ordnance, so he gave me one of his 14-45 LDA's to try.
Now I've never favored the 1911 style pistol, mainly because I can't hit anything with one. Not so with this gun! That double action trigger is sweeeet. I couldn't seem to miss with this pistol. Very quick recovery time on triple taps. I’m giving serious thought to getting one of these.
Oh, by the way, I passed my qualification. 47X50. :)

Frenchy,
WAy to go on your qual's.
Take a look at their site...Para-Ord. something. (Sorry)
I have heard a lot of good things about their Compact .45 LDA. Have yet to see one.
Had a 16-40, but when I heard that here in Kali that they were doing away with any mags over 10 in capacity, I sold it. It had a decent single action then. Good home gun. Little heavy on the carry side though.
Like to see a range report when you get your new toy, though.
Good luck.

Frenchy,
Once you try one you will never be the same...I was a bowling pin shoot this morning and let others shoot my 7.45 ( I like it because the single stack is easier for me to conceal than a double stack model). After the first person shot it, they were lining up to try it. Your right...it is smoooooooooth!

BTW,Congrats on your quals!

I own both the C7.45LDA "Para Companion" (top photo) and the C6.45LDA "Para Carry" (bottom photo) ...

... I like these guns. They are compact, accurate and .45's! The one complaint that I have is that my models will only feed FMJ and Cor-Bon ammo -- everything else jams and refuses to feed but the Cor-Bon and FMJ stuff has been reliable 100% of the time.

Have only fired one Para Ord. The P-12 over on the shelf. Good gun. Just doesn't flick my bic. If the thought of it and 3 full capacity mags makes anyone's underwear damp - I'm open to trade offers.

Would like to try one of their new DAs. I've hear a lot of folks praise them.

I've tried the LDA before and was very impressed with it. So much so that I seriously considered getting one. But, last week I got another chance to handle one and realized that it doesn't have second strike capability. For me, a DA auto without this is pointless. I'll stick with the standard 1911.

Frenchy,

That's good shootin', in fact excellent for using a gun with which you were unfamiliar.

I have a Para Ord C7 .45 "Para Carry". I hesitate to admit it but this pistol has supplanted my beloved Herstal Hi-Power as my every day carry piece. I'll be 55 next month and I was a little concerned that the short sight radius would cause me to have focusing problems after a few rounds which turned out not to be the case. The trigger is amazing; I was one of those guys who never considered a DA auto before I handled this one. Being a single action auto guy most of my life, clearing a misfire due to bad primer strike is/was part of my drill even though I've fired thousands of factory rounds and never experienced a bad primer. Oops, yes I did but it was in a model 94 .30-30 round.

My local dealer and a friend who trains several departments both tell me that several police agencies that don't mandate a specific model or caliber are allowing the LDAs for duty carry. I've seen one female deputy carrying a full size, hi cap Para Ord.

Regards,

Doc

I don't know how to edit my posts. The above should have said Para Companion, not Para Carry. I think I must want the little one also. In fact I'm sure I do.

Don't rule out the older Para's .... my household has two. Momma's "carry" is a P10-45 (that doesn't sit right in my hands) that she is real comfortable with, and I have a "tweeked and tuned" P14-45 that I built-up as a competition piece (Momma, also, claims that one, but I'm allowed to use it on Sundays).

Not only do they use "extended" mags and have the "double strike" feature but, because they aren't the "latest and greatest" you can find 'em at more reasonable prices.

J.H.,
Can we see some pics of Mommas pieces? How old is older?

Redrum,

Pictures? When it comes to posting pictures it would be polite to say that I've been a bit unlucky. It would be more correct to say that when it involves 'puters .... I could screw-up trying to get water to boil.

Both of "our" Para's are in the 8 to 10 year old range.

Ok I can live with that. But in future, if you want to post any pics just e-mail them to me and I will either post them for you or create a Q&D web page and send you the link.
