Found me a S/A and yes the real S/A M1 Garand with a trashed barrel....Gotta know who else does a great rebuilt and .308 rebarrel job?

I like the $599.00 package the Orion 7 offers with all new USGI parts, rebarreled and grey/green park...what do you all think.

Carston - YeeeeeHah!!! Congrats on your new M1!

Your collection is now complete. I can't think of another rifle that you need buy. ;) You can now spend money buying cases of ammo. :D

As for the rebarrel to .308, I don't think you can go wrong with Orion 7. Fulton Armory also does good work, but they are pricier and have a longer (usually MUCH longer) wait. Clint's shop has a lot of different irons in the fire - Tony Pucci and Orion specialize in M1's. Period.

You may want to call Tony and find out what else they do as part of the conversion. I had thought that the op spring also needed to be changed and there is a "block" that is inserted so that you can't accidentally pop in a clip of .30-06.

One more thought - since Orion specifically mentions installation of a .308 Winchester barrel, you may want to ask if you can use 7.62X51 ammo in it. I assume that's what you want to do so you can share ammo with your M1A, but the there can be headspacing issues with regards to use of one or the other.

Talk to Tony and let him know what you want and I'm sure that he can fix you up. Please keep us posted. :)

Yeppers, called Tony and he even answered the phone.

He does all you mentioned and more. They rework the bolt for better extraction, chamber is not tight and testfired with Nato .308, presently they have Wilson Airwieght barrels, headspaced and everything for $600.00 including new Walnut stock and park job.

Well, I gotta start selling a few more houses

Carston - Tony ALWAYS answers the phone. At least, he has the times I've called him. ;)

He's what you call a dedicated "hands on" owner.

So... sell a few more houses and send him the rifle. What you receive back will be drop dead gorgeous and shoot even better.

I've lost track of how many times I've recommended him. Every Single Time I take my M1 to the range one or more people comment on how nice it looks and want to know where I got it. :D
