I will tell ya...She ain't prutty at all. I fact more like a $5.00 street walker appling at the Beverly Hill Bordello....She is rough
Oh well..Looking past the tatter clothes, dirty finger nails and bad hair...Whoops I ment battered furniture, rusty parts and shot out barrel...There is hope in the fact she has an SA reciever, USGI bolt (IH I think) and a bunch of other good stuff.
Taking Cliff's advice and calling Tony at Orion 7 I will be sending her for a total makeover...Rebarreled to .308 with a NM wilson barrel, new furniture, tuned up and re Park'd the original grey/green color

Carston - I dunno.... she looks pretty good to me!
It even looks like you have a forged trigger housing as opposed to the later milled version.
When was the receiver manufactured? If you don't know, post the serial number (using XXX for the last three digits) and I can tell you the year.
I think you'll be VERY happy when you get it back from Tony. :)

As for Ser # 27269xxx and a SA reciever
Bolt marked D292xx-12SA
W10A
<> (Diamond here)
Trigger is marked IHC D65xxxxx
I gotta sell something soon to send this off

Oh and Cliff...the little part inside the mag on I guess what could be the follower that seperates the cases, darn thing popped off when I was cleaning it. How the heck do you get it back on or I shall just send it to Orion and they can fix it.

Carston - OK... here's some info for you.
Your receiver was mfr'ed in 1944, probably within the first few months of the year. This is based on the 27269 (counting your X's, you'd have an 8 digit serial number, which would be rare indeed as the max serial number range only goes to 7.) :p
The number on your bolt is the drawing number, and should be D28287, not 29287. Does it really say 29287? If so, something is amiss. The -12 is a bolt length designator, SA the mfr. The -12 is the shortest bolt that SA (and WRA) made. Longer bolts would be designated as -17, -19, etc. These were used to help in headspacing.
The W10A diamond is (I think) the heat treat code.
The thing that popped off is the slide portion of the slide/follower assembly. It's not supposed to just pop out. It's usually not removed and if you do have to remove it, a thin blade screwdriver is usually used to PRY it out. I'd say just leave it alone. The slide/follower assembly is only an $8.00 part and if it popped out that easily the assy is probably a good candidate for replacement anyway.
So... you just "clean 'em up", huh? What do you use? A hose and a wire brush? Lemme guess - the $10.00 models only need a spray bottle and a nylon brush. :D
Lincoln Towne car, huh? What do I know... I just drive a Toyota.

Carston. If you were to own a mini14, then you'd know how to fix that critter. :D Yeah it might be a bit difficult for someone that knows all about $5 street walkers, but it could be done. http://www.familyfriendsfirearms.com/forums/icons/icon29.gif

Yeppers Cliff...got one extra x in the number.
And right again about the bolt...darn lighting where I was. Trigger group in I think International Harvester and puts my SA M1A to shame.
It is a work of Art as opposed the the stamped SA stuff.
I saw one of these M1's posted some time back, blondish wood, nice grey/green park...Awesome looking M1, I wonder where I saw that
Well, I will get this gal sent off ASAP and post pic's.
With a NM barrel she should be a tack driver again.

Some people buy them to sit on the linoleum barracks, er living room, floor in their skivvies and combat boots cleaning them while watching "Band of Brothers". :D
I still haven`t found one I like.
