Allentown Gun Show

Kind of a mixed review. 800 tables and crowded. There was a big line to get in at 9:30 so I went and grabbed a bite to eat. I was told this is normal.

Was talking to a Sgt. from the Allentown P.D. Very pro gun and some who were in uniform were shopping too. They always have security there which I don`t see at other shows. Nice friendly crowd though.

The reason I posted this in the rifle section is I was sort of looking for a Garand. One guy had one but I lost him in the crowd. :o
I`ve gotten to know some of the dealers pretty well and this one who I`ve bought guns from was there. Frank is confined to a wheelchair (young guy too) but he has some nice stuff. He has AR`s SKS`, FAL`s etc. He had a M1 Rock Ola carbine in pretty nice shape for $695. I asked him about getting a Garand and he said he probably could but a nice one would run about $700. That`s not the hard to get ones like I-H or Winchester but no demilled crap.

Anyway, I went to pick up some .308 and when I get back he tells me there was a guy looking to sell a real nice Garand and was looking to get $750. Frank said I could have it and he wouldn`t get involved if the guy came back. Well, he didn`t. :(

I deliberately didn`t bring a lot of cash with me as I have some bills next month I want to get rid of. No biggie but I like to think sometimes I can save a buck. :)

CZ`s for over $400, Model 19`s and 29`s for over $400, closer to 5 really and no Browning`s I would bother with. It was a nice day out though.

dinosaur - Sounds like a real nice show.

800 tables? That IS large! Far larger than any we have around here. :(

It seems that M1's have gotten real popular as of late. It's nice that folks are starting to realize that the old "war horse" is still an excellent rifle.

Of course, this assumes that they're buying one so they can SHOOT it, rather than just clean it while wearing their skivvies and watching BoB. ;)

Glad to hear that you had a good time.

I haven't had any experience with them, but you may want to try the Civilian Marksmanship Program. I saw an ad in Guns & Ammo. For only $500, you can own a Garand.

Address: Civilian Marksmanship Program, P.O. Box 576, Port Clinton, Ohio 43452. Toll free: (888) 267-0796 Fax: (419) 635-2802.

Let us know if they are for real.
