fal if your there, I've got my first question. My L1A1 came with the forward sling swivel but nothing on the rear stock. Tapco has originals with the screws, can these be safely drilled and mounted on the synthetic stock? If so I'm going to order one plus some of the other goodies ;) I love this thing already :D
Jr. and I are taking it to the range again tommorrow :D

Sorry I haven't been on the net in several days.
You've got to be careful on where you put that swivel as the plastic buttstock is more of less hollow (filled with foam-sort of the same as an AR stock). Factory stocks came with a swivel assembly mounted near the rear of or molded into the stock. The factory mounting point is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the recoil pad. Don't know if there's a mounting point on the thumbhole stocks for a swivel or not. Let me know if you need more clarification or any more information and have a ball with your new FAL.

fal, This is a straight stock, not a thumbhole. It didn't even come with a recoil pad, just an open hole in the back to remove the return spring. It seems the stock has the line molded around where the pad should go. I've seen in the Tapco ads where they are telling their customers to just use their originals until a new one becomes available. Since this is my first I really don't know what should be there and what shouldn't. Also how do you know where the gas tube setting should be? This one is set at 5 and I didn't have any problems. It does shoot good though. :)
Thanks ;)

Haven't been online for a week now. Sorry about not getting back to you sooner.
The best information I can give you about the rear swivel would be to physically look in the stcok for a place where you can drill into the stock and screw in a swivel. If that is not an option (some stocks have no mounting block) you should be able to adapt a wrap-around sling, as used on some "tactical" rifles. This is a sling attachment mounting system that cups the end of the buttstock (one around the circumference of the stock near the back and one strap across the buttplate from one side to the other).
As to the gas tube setting, if it works and consistently throws brass to the same area I wouldn't mess with it. The prevailing widsom is to fire rounds until it won't reliably cycle then open it up one (or two) setting(s). You may find that you may need to change settings if you change ammunition types or brands. If you set it higher than it needs to be you'll just beat up your brass, dust cover and receiver.
