Front site tool?

Today, while at a gun show, I picked up a Tritium front site for my HBAR. After dealing with the detent pin and all that it's installed. BUT the site has an upper and a lower. The upper is supposed to rotate with a "standard site tool" so that the Tritium insert is facing me. The guy at the table I bought it from said that I didn't need any special tools to install the site, and I didn't, but he didn't bother to mention that I needed to adjust the site.

Does any one have any idea if this can be adjusted with something I might already have? Or do I need a special tool? Currently the only front site tool I have is for the SKS and AK rifles.

Stu - A sight adjustment tool for the AR costs about $8.00 (I think the A1 and A2 use different tools). I've never found the need to use one.

I'm a little confused, tho - am I to understand that the part containing the tritium element can rotate independent of the front site base?

If so, I'm not sure how the tool would help you. ?

Cliff- Yup, there are two parts to it. This is so that you can adjust the Tririum rod so you can see it after the sight as a whole has been adjusted.

Son - *I* don't. I use my Leatherman. :D

Stu - I found a picture of the thing. Now I understand. You can probably just use an awl to partially depress the detent pin below the notch on the top sight base and then use long nose pliers to rotate.

Im not going to say what I want to. Im not going to say what I want to. Im not going to say what I want to...

Cliff- That's pretty much what I did to get the site in. The problem now is rotating just the top of the site so I can see the Tritium. It looks like a small spanner wrench type tool is called for. I tried my Leatherman tool, but didn't want to mess up the sight by using too much pressure.

Geez, use the tip of a round, push the detent in and it is simple.
Well, that is unless you put a Mini14 site on a real carbine :( You know, A mans gun like an AR15 or an M1A
You know Stu, I wont stop and you may be getting rid of them Mini critters sooner than you think

Carston- The site is basically two pieces. The bottom of it is already set where it needs to be. Its the top of it that I need top turn so that the Tritium element is facing me. It was set up so that you could adjust the top half of the site after the base was set to proper depth.

The Tritium element isn't visible from all sides. Ya know, I've never had this kinda problem with a mini14 site. :D

i don't know about your sight but, the military uses or did several years ago a tritium front sight that you set in full turn increments as close as you can the fine tune the rear sight, then when you have your zero the rear sight knob is taken off by driving the pin out reset to zero and pinned back on. It's been a long time since small arms repair school but, i don't recall it being difficult.
