I got hosed, and its Carston's fault |
We had a guy that came into the shop today, needing to sell off a few firearms, and a big bag of mags. He's moving to the peoples republic of CA, and can't take them with him. Most of the mags I passed on, but bought all the AK and AR mags. Here's the problem. I get to work at the stadium and look at the AR mags, and there LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY. Only one states that on the floor plate, but they all have month and year of manufacture stamped on the side of the body. The oldest was made in 98. Normally Id take them back to the shop and sell them there, but I bought these on the side from the seller, and the boss knows nothing about them, so I can't take a bag of mags, that I can't legally be in possession of, and ask the boss to take them off my hands.
Why is this Carston's fault? Because I paid $10 each for 11 of them, and it's Carston that preaches that if you own an AR, or two, you need a pile of mags.
Any of you know someone that can legally be in possession of these mags? Ill sell them for what I have in them. I just want to get rid of them.
Curse you Carston, and your AR fetish. http://www.familyfriendsfirearms.com/forums/icons/icon29.gif

Stu, you can sell them to any FFL I believe, as long as he sells them to LE only.
Most wholesalers that I know, which sell LE magazines, require that I submit a signed document that I will only sell to LE type.
Now, I am not a LE officer. Heck I don't even play one on TV, but I am the chairman of the Police Committee which overseas operations in my small town. But alas, that does me no good, in the eyes of the LAW. The best I can do, is inventory and sell to LE only. I'll check around to see if any of our LE need any mags.
If so, I will give you a buck a piece :D
Tree- That would be great if you could do that. Heck Ill even sell them to you at $1 each, but you pay the shipping. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
A word of caution to the readers of this forum...
Stu is a heck of a fine fellow. He will often sell you just what you need at a price that borders on Free, and yes sometimes he sends you something free. He askes only that he be reimbursed for shipping.
So in the above example....the magazine may cost $1.00 ....HOWEVERRRRRRRRR ..... the shipping is $29.95.
Just a word of warning from someone with experience.
That doesn't make Stu any less of a fine fellow, because there is none finer.....
Its just his stock ownership in UPS, in which he is enriched greatly from his shipments to me, that is of concern. :D
Actually that wasn't my fault when Tree was hosed for the shipping. He ordered a pile of AR mags from the shop a few years ago. I set him with them at my cost. HOWEVER the boss nailed him like a white house intern for the shipping. To this day I don't know how bad the shipping was. But it's been a constant running joke since then.
BTW just so no one gets scared off that might want to get in on a deal from the shop I work at. I now ship from the stadium, so shipping is free.

Stu, you might look in Gun List or Shotgun News for LE dealers, give one of them a call and other them the mags for twentyfive bucks a piece. Chances are they will go for it and it would be a legal sale. They are going for around $55 a pop right now if what I read it correct. Twentyfive would be a bargin to someone that can legally own them.
On a side note, this whole conversation pisses me off. This is America dang it! We can own something that doesn't have some writing on it but God help us if we get caught with something with a date or words on it.:insert little cursing emotcon here:

Stu,
If it is indeed all my fault that you don't know what you can and cannot posess then so be it, I shall take full responablity  Now in taking responablity for your actions I shall expect that the difference between the $10.00 you paid and the $25.00 you sell them for will be sent to me in the form of a USPO Money order, hey how many did you get stuck with :p
From now on, never buy ANY MAGS that are dated after 1994. Don't you remember Cliff and I had it post on the old board
I think you had better stick to all those Mini things and leave the really Black Rifles to us.

Stu, What capacity are those AR mags? I might be interested (even though I don't own an AR yet). I PLAN to get one, preferably pre-ban, preferably WITHOUT paperwork.
Anyone know where I might make a deal like that?
Thanks Stu...
Bill- Here's the main problem. Because I don't have an FFL, I can't legally be in possession of them. Due to the damn "crime bill" its 10 years in club fed for each mag found in my possession. Because of this, there currently in a box stashed at the stadium. If I were to advertise them in a trade publication, it would be almost like advertising the sale of pot in the local paper. :( Im almost tempted to save the followers and springs, crush the mag bodies, and pitch them. I did find that one of the mags isn't LE only. So I paid $110 for one mag and some spare parts. I guess Ill have to chalk this up to live and learn.
Dennis- There 30 round mags with the green follower. *sigh*
Carston- I don't hold you responsible for my stupidity, just my greed at a deal like this. :D

Stu, The Pawn Shop can be in Possession of the mags and then you could put an add in the for sale forum. Or you might also send Email to Donnie @ m59sw@aol.com he is a class III weapons dealer on the East coast. I would also pull this post before the wrong people get to read it as well.
Honest, ATF guys....I don't have a clue who this Stu character is

Carston, and all. The mags will be on there way to a legal shop on Monday, so the possession is no longer a concern. *thank God*

Umm...you guys are scaring me. I own an AR and a bunch of 30rd mags bought at a gun show in UT. They came in the green GI mag carrier that holds 3 mags. Are these a problem?

Creedmoor - Welcome to the Triple F!
To answer your question - unless your mags have something like Law Enforcement Only stamped on it, or a date stamp showing it as mfr'ed after Sept., 1994, they are considered to be pre-ban and thus perfectly legal for us "serfs" to own.
NO markings also mean they are considered "pre-ban."
The green followers have nothing to do with this. The greenies just have a longer leg on them to correct misfeeds experienced with the older black followers.
