Stu, Save yourself and convert. You know you want an M1A and you know deep down that warm fuzzy feeling you get when holding an AR. Come to the dark side and learn what it is all about. Accuracy, reliblity and in expencenve mags.......Provided you know what you are buying :p
Just me, attempting to converting the less fortunite or the ways of the wise.

Carston- Ol buddy ol pal, I see three things wrong with that rifle. First, it has no pistol grip. Second, are those only 20 round mags??:eek" And third, where's the scope??? Do I see iron sites on that weapon? Ya know Cliff is going to give you a pile of crap about them sites. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Carston - Now THAT'S a rifle!
It's sleek and clean and doesn't have an oversized optic stuffed drain pipe sitting on top of the receiver.
About those sights... they're real simple to use. Look through the little hole in the rear sight. Keep the FRONT sight in focus. Hold center mass on your target.
Stand back and admire well placed .308 holes. :)
Stu - That was not a "pile of crap." It was sound advice, sincerely offered. :D
I can't wait to get MY M1A. :(
Cliff
Carston- I just noticed that not all of them mags are loaded. What happened buddy, did you run outta ammo? :D If you want, I have some CAVIM 308 Ill sell ya cheap. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA BTW I have more Ruger Factory hi cap mags then you have of them thar made by god knows who USGI M1A mags. :D

Cool Stu....congrats.
I have one NIB Pre Ban......Never Fired it yet.
Saw a fellow at the range practicing for the military shoots with 2 (count em two) Match tricked out rifles. Both Iron Sights with one exception...one site had a contact lens mounted in the peep to get the front post in focus.......smart. Not much good in the rain though.
Don't let them give you grief about those sights.
This guy was shooting .5MOA at 200yds......standing, prone, sitting....no scope. Of course he was a Vietnam Sniper too. (Didn't get in his line of fire)
It was a good shooting lesson to watch him. Good lesson in modesty too.
Impressive guns....shooting Lake Match Ammo (had 2 cases of the stuff) and driving tacks with em.
Congrats again....

KyKen - Welcome to the Triple F!
Contact lens in the peep, huh? Interesting. Some folks use diopters mounted on their glasses.
I would be the LAST person to give Carston grief about the iron sights on his new rifle. :D
I happen to be just a LITTLE fond of iron sights, myself. ;)
Cliff
Carston- Did you see that?? Ken congratulated *me* for keeping you in line. :D Of course me and Ken go way back from the gun chat rooms, so it's only to be expected. :)

Hey Stu do you know where CAVIM ammo is still available I liked the 500 I bought a while back but, I can't seem to find more.
Jsr5- I hope your kidding about the CAVIM ammo. That crap has tar as a sealant, and will gun the living hell outta your gun's gas system. Most dealers wont stock it any more because of it. If your shooting it out of a bolt gun, or a L1A1, then your ok. On the FAL clone you can adjust the gas system, but if you have a M1A or a H&Klone, them you'll have a bolt action after a few hundred rounds. I have 500 rounds of the crap that Im trying to sell to a sucker (like Carston). I couldn't sell it to a friend and sleep nights. But if you really want it, and will be at EOSMII let me know, and Ill let ya have it cheap.
Well whenI got it I was shooting it in my 308 enfields, and shot it in my latest 308 the FAL and have fired it in my Savage striker. So I haven't noticed the problem and yes I'll be at EOSMII and if you let me know how much I'll bring it with me. And Thanks I hadn't heard the problem with it before. I'll plan somthing else for my in case of ammo.

Most FALs and other black rifles I've seen/shot seem to like Radway Green and/or Portuguese ammo (in that order) if you shoot surplus in them.
I have some UK ammo that was supposed to be Radway Green and had 5 DUD rounds in the first can of 240, so at this point I'm not too proud of them.

Hey, Stu.....500 rounds, how much? Not to shoot in my M1A but maybe to break in a new Winchester Stealth .308 Varmint rifle I may want.
Now remember this is Carston " some sucker" that found you the deals on the adapter and a site tool and is waiting to hear about the Cheek Weld :p
Carston
Carston- I think I paid $12 per 100 for it. Most of it's in OK, but Ill be making a trip down there in a few weeks. Looooooooong story. :(

If you're looking for surplus US and Israeli 308 or 223 try Southern Ammo. It's delinked auto gun ammo. Mostly 70s and 80s production. I've not had any problems with it so far. They've got a sale going on now, you can get 1000 rds of 308 (shinney/brite) in two 50 cal ammo cans for $105 plus freight. Dented/tarnished (or pinged as it's listed on the cans) for $80 a thousand. The 223 is $104 for brite and $83 for dented. Give them a try . Check out some other posts on this ammo at The FAL Files (http://www.l1a1.com/cgi-bin/forums/ultimatebb.cgi)in the ammo deals topic.

Geez,
Where is Cliff, I am just lowly Troll Patrol but welcome.
As for the mags I shop the For Sale stuff looking for deals. Heck I shop the Sale Forums looking for anything that is a deal. I just bought a NIB Savage 10FP with Harris bipod, 3x9x40 scope and mounts for $425.00 From just checking things out.
Yo, Cliff....I found 5-6 M1's and I hear they can be rebarreled to a .308. Is this true?
Carston
Carston- Yup they can be re barreled in 308, but why? There is also a chamber insert that will allow you to shoot 308 in any 30-06. I see them for sale in Shotgun News every now and then.
