This is a semi-automatic sniping rifle firing the .50 Browning heavy machine-gun cartridge;
it is intended as a long-range sniping and interdiction weapon, and as a suitable defensive weapon for light vessels. Its object is primarily the destruction of material, rather than anti*personnel sniping. The rifle operates on short recoil principles; on firing, a considerable amount of thrust is delivered through the base of the cartridge case to the face of the bolt, which is transferred through the bolt lugs and body to the rear of the bolt carrier. The barrel has recoiled about 13mm when the bullet leaves the barrel, and after about 25mm of movement the bolt carrier is unlocked and moves back to rotate the bolt and unlock it. An accelerator also transfers much of the barrel's momentum energy to the bolt. The barrel finally stops, and the bolt continues rearwards to extract the empty case and eject it, then return to load a fresh round. The barrel is fitted with a very efficient muzzle brake which reduces recoil by about 30 per cent. There is an adjustable bipod, and the rifle can also be fitted to the standard M82 tripod or any mount compatible with the M60 machine-gun. It is in use by US and other Special Forces. :D
