Int`l Harvester. I think the serial # started with 577. Dark wood, good bore, pretty clean overall but nicely broken in looks wise. Might be a DCM but I couldn`t tell. The problem is the dealer is a $%^&* thief! I`ve known him since I moved to Pa. and he worships money. He wasn`t there so I have no idea what he`d take. Examples, an early Model 28-2 no box for $475, a Model 17 for $375 but it had the target stocks, trigger and hammer with box for $375, and a Browning BDM with one hi cap for $500. This is in a little farm town where the locals sell their guns after hunting season and he marks them up 100%.
I hate dealing with him.

dinosaur - It sounds like a good one! It's too bad that the dealer is such a gouger.
It's gotten a lot harder to "wheel and deal" on the M1's as of late. They've gotten so popular that demand has increased, with predictable results.
Please let us know how it goes if you make an offer.

I may go back this week. I saw another Garand the other day for $400+ but it was one of those that people say to stay away from. I can`t remember the name.
And I saw a National Match I think the other day. I think it was a Winchester but I could be wrong. I wasn`t interested as it was about $1300. Heavy sucker.
Stupid me. He wants $750 for the gun.
Where can you buy milsurp with the clips and bandoleers? I bought a can of it years ago and sold half of it for what I paid. I haven`t seen any lately. Makes it a lot easier than loading. :)

dinosaur - The only place I've seen that sells M2 ball already loaded in enblocs is the CMP. Of course, you have to be "qualified" to buy through them.
Shotgun News may help you track something down.

Well, I went back yesterday. It turns out it`s chambered in .308. I did a little research and I.H. didn`t make M1`s until the early 50`s and none were originally chambered that way. Someone on TFL said it might be a Navy rifle but I didn`t see any markings. It may be an arsenal rework as the receiver was in pretty good shape. I understand they resleeved the barrels on some. The good thing is .308 is easier to get. I don`t think it`s worth the money though.

dinosaur - Yeah... IHC's production run spanned from 1953 to 1956.
Most of the Navy rifles in good condition that I've seen have run from $1,200 and up. They usually have 7.62 marked on the op rod forward of the op rod handle.
Some 7.62 "conversions" consist of nothing more than a chamber insert.
A proper 7.62 conversion will consist of a rebarrel, along with a modified op rod spring and cut down ejector spring, as well as a "plug" that will prevent you from loading in a clip of .30-06.
$750.00 for a good condition Navy rifle would be quite a find!
