What a day. Im back on line after a computer crash, and I picked up that SP1! It's old enough that it doesn't have a forward assist, hence the nick name slab side.
I still need to check the serial number to make sure when it was made, but Id be willing to guess that the date of manufacture was somewhere in the early 70's.
Hey Carston- Try this with one of your new fangled ARs. Lock the bolt back without a mag in the well, grab the rifle by the barrel, and smack the but stock on the floor. Ill bet yours wont close the bolt. :D
Now that Im single again, and after I get the pre ban mini14 in the safe paid off, Ill be shopping for another AR. Not that I've gone over to the dark side. Heck it would take more then this to do that. But with three ARs Id be sure to have at least one that will work some of the time.

Stu - Congrats on the SP1.
I see that you discovered the "poor mans bolt release." ;)
For somebody who doesn't like AR's, you're sure collecting them at a rapid pace.
It's OK. We know the real reason why you're collecting them. :D

I am not gonna say a thing but did anyone notice a few words.....Single again and LOOKING for his next AR
I am glad I am not trying to sale any Mini's as soon the market is gonna be flooded I fear
Now Stu where the hell are the pic's :p
Buy the way, I just bought me a Savage 10fp, with a Harris Bi Pod and scope for $425.00 shipped and it is NIB.
Now Cliff, as for M1 Garands....I found 6 or 7 ranging from lower 5's too $800..Wood to beat up pretty bad on all. I hear they can be rebarreled to a .308, is that true? If so I may just be putt'in some tricked out SKS's up for sale.
Cliff, I have to admit....even as beat up as they were, that wood was sure pretty and they felt good to hold....sorta like holding an old friend.

Carston- You need to re read the post. Ill be shopping for another AR after I pick up another mini14. :D

Carston - It's true! It's not at ALL uncommon for folks to have M1's chambered for the .308 round. The barrels are easy to come by, but I'd advise that you have a competent 'smith install it for you. Personally, I'd recommend that you send the rifle (if / when you get it) to Anthony Pucci at Orion 7 Enterprises (http://www.m1garandrifle.com/).
Let his company provide and install the barrel as well as give the rifle a tune-up. His work is top-notch and he stands behind it.
There are also chamber inserts out there that will "convert" a '06 chamber to 308. In a word - Don't. It's a kludge at best and dangerous at worst.

Not to worry....I DON'T DO Adapters. I will have to take another look at these M1's after I get this darm Savage 10fp.
But Cliff....they have that wood  and they did look nice.
Carston
Carston- Ya know that do make wood stocks for ARs. And the mini14s come with wood furniture.
