Finally got my M1 Carbine |

On Friday, a friend called to ask if I wanted to got to the gun show in Hickory, NC (about 90 minutes drive) this weekend. I agonized over this decision for perhaps a nanosecond. We went up today. I was there for almost two minutes when I saw an IAI M1 Carbine copy. I tried (really!) to exercise some self-control (aka fiscal responsibility) My friend and I wandered through the show for a few more minutes, when my friend departed for the rest room. Inexorably, I gravitated back toward the carbine. I stood there for a few seconds, and the (very pretty) girl behind the table asked if I wanted anything. I just pointed to the gun, and she went for the paperwork. The "instant" background check took over half an hour; I (actually, the guy I was riding with) was about to leave, when the check came through. So, I am now the happy owner of my M1 Carbine. At $429, it probably wasn't a real bargain, but it's what I wanted at about what I expected to pay.
It came with one 10-round new magazine, and I bought 2 USGI surplus 15-rounders (still in the wrappers) for another $7 each. I threw in a few boxes of ammo, and I'm set.

Clueless - Good for you! The M1 carbine has always been a favorite of mine. When I was a kid, I had a carbine clone manufactured by Universal. It was fairly accurate, very reliable and a ton of fun to shoot.
When do you plan to shoot it? Of course, a range report will be mandatory. ;)

I took my old US Postal Meter 30 Carbine out a month or so ago. I had found a bunch of new mags for it in a close out over at Wilson Combat. So I thought I would shoot a few of the carbine stages with it at a local match. I had forgotten how much fun that little rascle can be.
If you think I got the Galil for a song.... you don't even want to open the hymnal on the story of the M1. GRIN :D :D

Congrats on a fine weapon and piece of history. $429 is not too bad for one. I see them for less in Gun List but by the time a person pays shipping and a few bucks to your FFL for receiving it and doing the paperwork you're right in that ballpark.

Soooooooooo.... $35 for mine back in 78 was a pretty good deal Bill????
Fella found it in his attic. Asked me if I wanted to buy a 30-06. Told him I would look at it. Then I said "friend... this is NOT a 30-06. It looks like a US issue M1. What would you give me for it? I don't know. How about $35? Ok... "
