I know it's about as useful as a football bat, but ....

.... over the week-end I bought a "thing", from a neighbor. Was left to him by his father-in-law who passed away last year. "what the heck", I said to myself, "he only wants $50 for it, and it will make a good, inexpensive "plinker" for small daughter".

The bore looks OK, and every thing goes "klang" and "click" as expected .... so, I gave him the $50 and took it home.

Down to the work bench .... removed the forearm and the stock .... and stopped!

Understand, if you will, that the military version was still "issue" in the days when I worked for "Uncle" and that for a period of time I even lugged one around on a regular basis. I do remember how the originals came appart for cleaning. But I've never seen the inside of the commercial version .... and it ain't the same "critter".

Would one (or more of you .... 'cause I expect to catch some semi-serious rasberries over this one) tell me how to field strip a cal. .30 M-1 carbine that was built by Universal? Those double guide rods don't seem to want to retract for removal the way I remember the originals doing. Also the cross pin for the trigger housing group does not look as if it is removable.

Before I break something .... I would 'preciate the help !

Well ....Now I don't feel quite so bad. No one else seems to know the field strip procedure for the Universal carbine, either.
Perhaps Universal would tell me .... if I could locate them. Starting to believe they have gone "belly up".

Oh well, for the price I paid I can afford to fool around with it until I figure it out (or break it). *chuckle*

John Henry, The Universal cal. .30 M-1 carbine Is a GI copy, least that is what it says in the Blue Book. It should take down just like the US issue.

John - When I was a kid, I had one of those Universal carbines.

I'll be darned if I can remember how you field strip it! For that matter, I may not have ever stripped it down.

I do remember that it was very reliable - even with crappy aftermarket 30 round mags. To this day, I regret selling it. :(

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Cliff

S.O.S. ..... Re; the blue book.

Trust me, my friend .... the "plumbing" ain't the same as the issue item.

Cliff .... 'preciate the come-back.
And it's not to bad a shooter.
