This Trooper I bought has some exhaust "issues" which I plan to correct as time and money become more available. I don't think it's going to be the kind of job that I can do layin' on my back in the driveway, if you get my drift.
Anyway, I need to find a universal type gearshift boot that I can fasten to the "hump" and will close up tight around the shifter stick itself. This will cut down on a lot of the exhaust and heat that is getting back into the inside. The factory boot is busted beyond repair.
All I'm looking for is something functional, not worried too much about looks. But I need for it to fit tight.
Is this something I can pick up at AutoZone? Has anyone ever bought one that they would recommend?
Thanks, bd

You can get a universal boot from most any speed shop. You might also try Jegs (http://www.jegs.com) or Summit Racing (http://www.summitracing.com) .
Were it me, I'd re-think my priority on fixing those leaks. If you have exhaust coming into the car, you are taking your life in your hands...and you won't even know its coming. Carbon Monoxide is colorless and odorless, and it will kill you dead.
Even just wrapping the hole with muffler tape (available from AutoZone) is better than nothing!

Exhaust manifold gaskets.
Yesterday it wouldn't crank at all. Been running fine for a couple of days. No fire from the coil. Changed coil, same thing, no fire out, I guess I've got a control circuit messed up. Got to get that going now. I hope I'm not looking at getting into the control module computer thangs now. I hate to buy a vehicle and have to start working on it immediately!
