Got an old single shot rifle and was thinking about having the receiver chrome plated, barrel reblued and stock polyurethaned...

Oh man...that is pretty.
It looks as thought the reciever was case hardened and not chromed.
I think it lookes awesome just like she is, maybe refinish the wood and rub about 10 coats of Tung Oil into it.

Neet old rifle.

Why not just encase the whole thing in a block of Lucite? Man, is that pretty! What caliber?

I trust you were kidding about refinishing that gem. Hope so at least. :)

Very cool. I always enjoy clasic type rifles such as this one of yours.

1-1917 - Welcome to FFF!

Holy BeJeezurs! That is one beautiful rifle!

As long as you're going to be doing all of that *cough* "other work" you may as well mount a scope on it, too.

Seriously - please tell us more about that work of art.

I think I could get help from Grayfox to string you up if you chrome even a screw head on that old girl! Nice sights! Is that a Remington Low Wall? On second thought ... it could be a Ballard.

You better start talkin'! Jesus, she's a beaut!

Just Kidding about the chrome and such! Keep the rope at home! Rifle is a Steven's model 52. Basically at the low end of the serious scheutzen rifles. I believe they called it a scheutzen junior. I don't know exactly when it was made but guess right at the turn of the century.
You might notice the little wad of news paper in one of the bullet boxes on the photopoint album site. Wad of paper has a 1904 date on it. That wad of paper is all I have to date the rifle with. It was my great grandfathers rifle who lived in New Braunfels Texas and shot scheutzen during the late 1800's, early 1900's. It is truly in mint condition including the original stock and metal finish. It's built on the weaker 44 action and is a 38-55 cal. Incredible double set trigger. I shoot it quite frequently, just can't stand letting it set in a safe all it's life. It was made to be shot and it gets shot, just very carefully. Just wanted to share a few pictures of a neat rifle with some other rifle lovers...

Well, she's sure purty! I have a Wickliffe that is a replica of the Stevens 44 1/2. It is a very strong action. It's in 38-55 also. I'll have to get off my duff and use this new digital camera.
