I have a remington 700bdl and I need to remove the front sight. It has a scope and the sharp front sight has been tearing the lining outta our kolpin gun boots :(

The back sight easily unscrewed and I put in filler screws, but the screw on the front sight doesn't remove it. The screw comes out but the sight is stuck on hard. Is there some kind of groove it's fit into? Is there a certain direction it should slide? I really want this sight off, and it should be easier than this!!

BadMeds - Wouldn't the Gunsmithing forum be a better place for this question? ;)

Is the front sight mounted on a dovetail of some kind? If so, it's not uncommon for it to have to be installed and removed from one side only.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I posted this ques a few boards to get a quick reply. the common consensus is to remove the doivetail top piece, and there's another screw hidden under it. Thanks though :)
