Question for all:
What was your first rifle? Do you still own it?
What was your last rifle purchased?
In my case the first was a Sears & Roebuck .22 single shot that my Dad gave me for my 10th birthday. Gotta cock it for each shot, so no safety. Learned to shoot with it, gun safety, etc. Still have it. Think I'll take it out this weekend and run a few boxes of .22 through it.
The last rifle purchased, let me think for a minute...
a Ruger 10/22 stainless w/ Mannlicher laminated gray stock for my son. I guess I haven't changed much (or I became more like my Dad) as I get older.
Plenty of others in between the two but I really do enjoy all the memories that both of these two have built into them.
Anyone else care to comment on their's?

First rifle was a Marlin Model 99M1 .22RF Carbine. Looked very similar to the old M1 Carbine except was tube fed. Unfortunately, it had to be sold many years ago during one of the down periods in my life. :(
Last was a Browning Model 1886 lever gun in .45-70. :D

First one was a Winchester M-77. Still have it, still shoot it.
Latest: Custom Remington M-788, Pac-Nor barrel, Lone Wolf stock, B&L 6-24X in 6MM Ackley Improved. It shoots pretty good. :D

First rifle - A Mossberg 44(US) .22LR. A military training rifle that my Dad gave to me after teaching me how to safely handle it and shoot it. Aperture rear sight, configurable hooded front sight. Accurate as heck, but at 7+ pounds was a bit of a load for my little 10 year old body to haul around.
Stolen from my parents house many years ago. :( I still have the bolt (it was stored separately) and 7 round mag.
Last rifle - Springfield Armory M1A with NM front sight. Nice rifle... a little creaky and under lubed out of the box, but it smoothed up nice. It'll shoot 2 MOA using Milsurp ammo with the iron sights if I do my part.
I still like my M1 better, tho. ;)

Humm...1st rifle was a Sear and Roebuck 6C SA in .22LR, mag has been lost but I got it back when my Father past away.
My 2nd rifle was given to me by may grandfather..Savage 99 in .308
I lost it to a greedy grandmother but got it back 30 years later.
As for latest Rifle would be a Savage 110FP in .308
If you include Carbine, a Preban BM A2 HBar with Colaspable stock.

1st: Marlin bolt action. I bought it used for $11, when I was 12.
Last: Spanish Mauser in .308
First rifle was a Marlin model 60 purchased at Wards. I must have shot 15,000 rounds through that rifle before I sold it. As much as I like my collection of Ruger 10/22s, I've always had a marlin mod 60 in the collection.
The latest, was (drum roll please) Another Ruger mini14. :D

first was an anschutz 1416 .22lr purchased at the Karlsruhe rod&gun club in germany. I shoveled snow all winter to earn the $65 to buy that rifle in 1969. I was in the 8th grade then. Yes I still own it, yes it is still as accurate as any .22 sporter ever made.
Last was t-99 6th series nagoya (w/bayonet) arisaka. Bought as trade fodder but still own it (it's growing on me).

Hey 1-1917
An Arisaka?
I've got one too.
My Uncle Jesse came back from the Pacific with it (circa 1945) and gave it to his little brother (my Dad). When I was 14 my Dad gave it to me. Never shot it, don't know what caliber it is ?6.5 or 7.7? or what?
It's in great shape tho' and joins my other WWII bolt actions in an incomplete collection.
You never hear much about those Japanese tools of war. Where could I go to look up info? How much does ammo cost? How accurate are they? (I compare all my Bolt Actions to the Swede 96 - its a gem)
If only they could talk.
Uncle Jesse was in Navy, off Iwo and Oki and probably traded from some Marine.

For arisaka info go here and look down about the middle of the forums at one called "weapons of the rising sun". Some very sharp collectors hang out there.

I think my first was a Marlin 39A. That was a long time ago. But in any case I had to sell it when I fell on hard times a long time ago. But I have sense replaced it with another.
I agree with Stu that no collection is complete without at least one of the Marlin model 60's. They are inexpensive but one of the most accurate .22's I've ever fired.
