The links to threads are blue-grey prior to visiting them yet are also blue-grey after visiting.

How do I get a color change as a visual aid for threads that I have visited? I have checked the profile, FAQs, Options, etc but find nothing on highlighting visited threads.

Any help out there?

Thanks,

J

The vB software will change the colors for you after you log out and back in again. Otherwise it treats it as the same visit. That is suppose to change in the 3.0 release.

I have logged out, turned off the xcomputer, etc. This morning, I logged in and the colors have not changed. Do I need to turn on something on my computer that is lacking?

Thanks,

J

Are you talking about the underlined words or the envelopes?

With the 2.2.9 version of vB that we are running, it is the color of the envelopes which tell you which threads have new posts since the time of your last login.

When you login, a cookie is set. Then when you log out and re-login again the two login times are compared. If new posts were made to a thread since your PREVIOUS login, you'll see this type of envelope http://www.familyfriendsfirearms.com/images/newfolder.gif next to the thread and if no new posts were made, then you'll this type of envelope http://www.familyfriendsfirearms.com/images/folder.gif.

If you made a post to a particular topic and sombody replied since your last login, you'll see this open envelope http://www.familyfriendsfirearms.com/images/dot_newfolder.gif with a dot on it indicated that you posted to it once or more and if there were no new replies to it since you last logged in, then you'll see a closed http://www.familyfriendsfirearms.com/images/dot_folder.gif.

That's how you can tell which stuff is new. You can also use this link (http://www.familyfriendsfirearms.com/vb/search.php?s=&action=getnew), which is found at the top of the main page, when looking for new stuff since midnight / the past 4 hours (which ever is greater).

In order for all of this to work, you must be logged in and your cookies enabled.

Hope this helps.

Not talking about the envelopes.

In the forums, such as Legal and Political, the links to the various threads are listed under a column headed "Threads". The links are blue-grey.

If I click on a link, such as the one titled "CDC questions gun control " the window changes to the posted comments which I can then read or add my own comment. When I am finished, I can hit the "back" button or link back to the forum. At this time, the link under the header "Threads" should be a different color based on that thread having been visited and recorded to the cookies. This does not happen.

My cookies are set to:

First party: Prompt

Third party: Block

http://www.familyfriendsfirearms.com : Always Allow

Is there something else I have to set to "on"?

Thanks,

J

I see what you're saying.

I just checked out TAC (http://thearmedcitizen.net/forums/index.php?s=) (the very first spin-off of TFL ... we were the second spin off) and they are running the same version of vB that we are and the same thing happens over there -- the link does not change color after visiting it.

I will look into the online documentation in more detail to see if it is controlled by a setting but I suspect that it has to do with the software that we are running since both FFF & TAC are on 2.2.9 and the link colors behave exactly the same on both boards.

Just as an FYI, we are scheduled to be upgraded to 2.3.2 of the software on or around 11/25/2003 (assuming our technical admin is free at that time).

THR does change color. Maybe you could pick their brain to see what they are doing.

Thanks,

So does the 1911 Forum. When exiting a forum there there is a color shift, as it were, to indicate that the forum had been accessed.

THR is running version 2.3.0. FFF uses 2.2.9.

Shooters Forum is running vBulletin Version 3.0.0 Beta 5. why not use this one?:dunno:

1) Unless policy has changed, Gunsnet will not allow a Beta version on their servers. So 3.0.0 Beta 5 is out of the question.

2) As mentioned earlier, we are not scheduled for our software upgrade until 11/25/2003. At that time we will go with the latest version of the software that is considered GA (General Availability -- no Beta's). If it's 3.0.0, then that's what we will be upgraded to. Otherwise, it will be 2.3.2

Just to let everyone know, we are now running version 2.3.2 of vB -- a couple of weeks ahead of schedule!

And there is still no indication what threads/forums have been accessed by a change of colors.

There is no option in the backroom to change colors for visited links. I did change the link color to a slightly lighter blue with the text black, but it doesn't seem to effect the visited links.

Alan, maybe it's a hack? If I get a chance later I'll do some searching and see if there is a hack.
