Anyone Shoot Bowling Pins? |
Just wondered if anyone else enjoyed Bowling wiht handguns like I do. I havent been to a match for a long time and I usually didn't rank better than the middle but it is a blast (litterally).
For anyone not familliar the game is Placing 5 actual Bowling Pins in the middle of a 4'x8' table on line evenly spaced. The table if I recall correctly is 5 yds away. On a start command guns are lifted from ready position (gun in hand muzzel resting on the bench) and as rapidlyas possible engage the pins with the score time stopped when the last pin hits the ground. There are variations of this for use with lightweights like 9mm and for 22's as well as shotguns. It is fun or atleast in my opinion it's fun.

We do it just a BIT different here in Pflugerville. We set up TWO tables at 7 yards. And the tables are only about 28 inches deep.
Now... one shooter on the left... one on the right. Low Ready.... Ready.... HONK!!! Whoever clears the table first wins and advances to the next round. Double elimination. We normally have from 20 - 30 shooters and we run the entire thing in about an hour and a half. People shoot wheel guns, 1911s, Tactical Tupperware ;), and even ... lord help us... 50AE Desert Eagles.
Heack of a lot of fun. Every now and then we do a side match of shotguns or .22 or even revolver only. If you happen to be in the Austin area on a Tuesday night, come on out to Pflugerville to Cooks Sure Shot and have a ball.

I shot pins once as part of an overall match. This was some years ago. I was using a 6" Python. I cleared 5, missed the sixth, & had to reload. :( Threw my time way out. Oh well. It was a fun day.

Yup .... the gun club I belong to holds 5 or 6 "pin" matches every year. We, normally, expect 120 to 150 shooters at each one. We have one variation to the "normal" pin table. We built some 2 tiered (where is spell check, when you need it) tables. Can be used with 2 pins on one shelf and 3 on the other .... or, 5 and 5 (with a tactical reload). All of our tables are 28" deep, and ALL pins must be off the table (not just down) before the clock can be stopped.
Central Lake, Mich. .... which is about a 3 hour drive for me, is the home of the 2nd Chance Shoot .... one of the most impressive
events I've been in. Bowling pins are a large part of that week-end.

I have been busting pins for almost 20 years. I attended 12 out of the last 15 Second Chance Pin Shoots in Michigan. Our local club holds a monthly pin match. We used to get about 25-30 shooters but things have died down to a hard core of about 8-10 nowadays. Like most things, the popularity rises and falls.
Would be interested to know of more pin shoots in the NC, SC, Va area?

A good pin match is about as much fun as you can have. I should get interested again. It doesn't matter how good you are it is the fun that matters. I went to the range for a shoot one day and one of the shooters came running out screaming: "MORE AMMO, MORE AMMO!" I don't think I have ever laughed harder. Regards, Richard

Yep, I love it.
I've been shooting mainly .45, but I've also shot the course with .357 Mag., .41 Mag., and I just got a 10mm that I'm dying to try.
