Sound Deadening?

Wanting any info on sound deadening products for autos or house use that could be adapted.

I have bare metal roof, old county truck no head liner and is pretty noisey inside.

I did see some 'sound board' at the local home improvment that I could cut and put up on the roof inbetween the supports but im not sure how well that would work or if id need more than super 77 adhesive to get it to stay up there. Its texture is like coconut shell, very fibrous.

Another thought was double sided foil bubble wrap glued, I know it insulates but not sure of the sound properties vs the sound board.

I could also put up the sound board and the double sided foil bubble after that I suppose. It would be nice to find some self sticking mat that does this wtihout having to use adhesive. I know speaker cutouts use sound insulating sheets but they are about 20 bucks for two small sheets and I have a entire suburban roof to cover. It would be cheaper to have bedliner sprayed up there!:D

Any thoughts?

Yeah I heard that also but is too thick for putting into a truck.

I found some thinsulate acoustic material from 3M but I think it is only used on OEM stuff and not sold after market.

I found some suff in san diego but not sure how much it costs but looks very easy to install and use. http://www.acoustiblok.com/

K,

Try to glue some old lime green shag carpeting or even carpet padding overhead with some spray adhesive.

I did this in an old van one time, it worked pretty good for a cheap way out.

Shagadelic!

:D

Path, they make what? The thinsulate that I mentioned? I went to their web site and dont look like regular folks can buy it from them.

I also emailed them but havent heard a word back yet.

I know carpet would work but I want something that will fit under the head liner if I can salvage one somewhere someday.:D

There is a product called DynaMat that is usually associated with car stereo products that works well to dampen sound and also vibration of body panels. Here is a link to it on Crutchfield.com (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Vo7PqRRzRkh/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=11&g=181250&I=15411105&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N)

How about the paint on bedliner stuff you can buy? Had a friend that moonlighted at Rhino Liner, did the whole floor pan of his Jeep CJ. Made it the quietest Jeep I've ever been in. Use the left over to do the floor pan of your truck. Bet it quiets it down considerably

Thanks for the welcome.

CoastieN70's idea is a good one too. I had my truck bed sprayed with Line-X and it quieted everything down a great deal even though it wasn't applied directly to the cab. I know a couple of people who have had their floor pans done in jeeps with it with the same result that Coastie mentioned.

Dyna mat is very expensive for an entire suburan roof but does work well.

Ive thought of the bedliner stuff but not sure about applying it to a roof. I asked about the entire floor pan of my truck but the cost was very high with them doing it. Ill have to see.

Thanks for the Ideas and welkome to FFF.:)
