Big news concerning EAA, Baikal, and "Big Green."

On November 6, 2004 we let the cat out of the bag, so to speak. All of the guns we had been importing from Baikal of Russia (IZH models), will now be sold under the Spartan by Remington” name brand. We will continue to perform warranty work on the Baikal line. Spartan by Remington guns will be at a slightly higher price than similar EAA models, so buying an EAA model is a good investment since the price will only increase. If you are a dealer, stock up on all the EAA Baikal guns you can find and enjoy the profit. The change to Spartan by Remington was a positive change for the Baikal line and fully supported by EAA Corp. The Baikal plant in Russia will now be working with one of the oldest and largest names in the USA firearms business and we are proud to have had a part in this historic event.

i'm not sure what to think......except that i better look again at the Baikal IHZ18MH before Remington raises the price, or stops importation.....

This has been in the works for a year or so. No great suprise.

Remember Baikals are not "fine" guns, they are utilitarian guns. Almost crude.

Savage/Stevens tried something similar to what Remington is planning and it failed. They raised the price and their guns sat on store shelves instead of selling.

If you want one of these guns, get it now since EAA will no longer be importing the Baikal line. The Baikal line is dead. The Spartan line is here. Same guns, higher price.

You can pour purfume on feces and all you get is good smelling feces.

Hmmm, what about the Saigas, and the Hi Cap magazines.....

the Saigas are made by Izhmash and will continue to be sold through EAA. good news on that front is that Saiga 7.62x39 30-round mags are available now, and .308 and .223 mags are expected soon....also there will be a Saiga with a "skeletonized" stock with adjustable cheek rest (i'm thinking it will be a Dragunov-inspired design)

...of course all this info is readily available on EAA's website (http://www.eaacorp.com)

i'll give you the first part of your statement; my IHZ27 is a fine utilitarian gun. it by no means appears crude, nor does it function or shoot crudely.

for an example of crude, reference the last-ditch Arisaka T99s from late in WWII.

Pick up a Beretta or a Merkel or a Fabarms side-by-side, then pick up a Baikal. Crude.

You get what you pay for.
