Don't focus on moving the cross- hairs.

Think about moving the point of impact (the hole) to where the cross-hairs are.

If you are hitting high adn to the right, use the adjustment knobs on the scope and move the hole down and to the left.

Hope that helps!

roboto,
Another way of sighting it in, can be done with one shot, if you have a set of sand bags. You set your rifle up as solid as possible in the sand bags, and fire one shot trying not to move the rifle. You then adjust your scope crosshairs to the hole you just shot. It should then be sighted in. I've read of people doing this with just that one shot, but I always have to check it with a follow up shot.

H'lo Roboto,
MtJerry is exactly right.

Here is a way to sight-in a rifle with only one shot.
Fire one round at the center of the bullseye at 100 yds. lets say it lands 8" out at 2 o'clock. If you don't have a scope with enough power to see the bullet hole at 100 yds put a 1' piece of tape over the hole so it can be seen from the bench. Now move the rifle so that the crosshairs are on the bullet hole or piece of tape. Now Without Moving The Rifle turn the scope dials down and left till the crosshairs are on the bullseye.
There you have it.

Good luck and welcome aboard.

Not quite Big Blue,
I think you didn't type what you meant. I do that all the time. :D
If the shot is out at say 4" at 3 o'clock and you move the crosshairs out to the hole, it will be 8" out at 3 o'clock when you're done.

Hook,

Your probably right, my understanding was to shoot the rifle without moving it, then adjust the scope to center on the point of impact. Scope would then be alligned to match the point of impact. If you fired a second shot, without moving the rifle, it should hit right where the crosshairs are now alligned, and at the same point of impact as the first shot.
Okay, where did I screw it up? Now keep in mind I just got home from a 12 hr. shift, and a 124 mile round trip, so I'm not firing on all the cylinders.:D
