Beck I'm no expert on 73 Wins but my book indicates that with that serial it's at least a third model and the high number with the A may mean a later reissue. Is it Rifle, Musket, or carbine model? Carbine is worth more, and if in fair condition would not be a really bad deal. It would have to be in at least good condition to make it a deal. In Very good you might be able to sell a carbine third version for 6G if you found the right buyer. I'd sure be suspicious though.

If it is a rifle, not a carbine or musket and the serial # indicates it is a rifle, it is a third model. If I am correct, in 95% it is worth approximately $3500.00, 75%; $2500.00 and 50%; $1500.00 (add 20% for .44-40 WCF cal., add 30% for octagon bbl in .44-40 WCF cal.).
It seems that you met a slick salesman.
H'lo Beck,
dipodomys is right, that is the third model.
model 1873 Rifle - 50% condition $600 to $2100
75% condition $800 to $2500
95% condition $1300 to $3500
model 1873 Carbine ( 20" barrel and 2 barrel bands)
50% - $500 to $2500
75% - $800 to $4500
95% - $1000 to $ $6000
model 1873 Musket (30" round barrel and 3 barrel bands)
50% - $400 to $1925
75% - $600 to $2500
95% - $800 to $3400
The most important thing is CONDITION.
Now...Don't you you think that if the seller could make over $6000 profit at a gun show, he'd take it there himself. :OMG:
BUYER BEWARE....WATCH FOR FAKES

Thanks and i do not believe i wood give 600.$ for it. It is a rifle full length, and well worn. Both the top and bottom tang is worn pitted faily bad. That azz hule wont let a person photto the rifle. It is heavy, and the wood is old and I could not even tell the caliber from the wear.no cracks in the wood tho. Damn shame the rifle wound up in the shape its in.

Saw an original 73 octagon barreled rifle in 38-40 WCF a couple years ago. Rifle looked really nice til you looked at the barrel about 6 inched back from the muzzle the barrel was badly rusted and pitted inside and out. Looked to me like it was the result of carrying the rifle in a wet saddle scabbard. Damn Shame.
