I decided that if I were going to have an EBR, then it was gonna be a big 'un, so I finally took the plunge!
This is my new Springfield Armory SOCOM-16. It came with a 10 rd. magazine, & I purchased a Thermold 20 rd. (it was the only 20 rd. M14 mag they had.) I'm going to get an SA 5 rd. mag for hunting purposes, and top the thing off with a Bushnell Holosight. Pick up ten or twenty 20 rd. surplus mags at gunshows, and I'll be set. Yehaaw!!!

now THAT is an EBR I could live with. I have looked at several of those over the past few years. I just gotta get rid some other "expenses" first.

VERY NICE

... by the way, did it come as a "set" with the Kimber? :D :P

Beck, do you have chrono figures for a 22" bbl.? If so, I'll chrono mine when I shoot it, and we'll be able to compare notes.

An "EBR" is a nasty lookin' AR15.....AR10.......M15........M16.......

Pistol grip.........30rnd detachable box magazine........

C'mon! Nice rifle. But...... NOT an "EBR"!

Lost what i was typing. No confirmed data on ammo and come ups are 9 clicks from zero for 100 ,we have no chrono. Strickly gone on what others have used and posted on.
Really think the short version would suit me well as velocity, site pic , and range diff seem to be very small. As I do not shoot competition this set up seems perfect.
the above site is where i have been reading and posting some. lets see,Blck hills moly 168 @ 100 yds gits 1'' or less,radway green 1to 1 1/2", aussie,Sa,lc gits me 1 1/2 to 2 all at 100. Peep sights,ss med barrel,1 /11 twist ,6 grove,3 1/2lb trigger,off a sand bag off a bench,and will bumpfire 2 or 3 if you aint slung in tight.

Don't pi$$ on the man's new toy just cause it doesn't fit your definition of "EBR". Doesn't fit mine either but it's still cool. maybe you were joking? If so, I apologize. I guess I'm just a crabby old bastid on Monday A M.

Nah, nah!! Since it's got a wood stock, it's an EBR all right = Evil Brown Rifle!!

That takes care of ski's problem as well. And knowing ski, yes he was just joshin' around. ski's gruff, but he ain't never hurt anyone's feelings! :D :D

Oh, and Richard, one hell of a nice piece!!! A full range report is required!

(Edited: Jeez, I take all this back. It's looks like a black synthetic stock on the SOCOM 16. I guess I just had in mind the original M14/M1A's.)

I know what'cha mean. What's your favorite caliber? I always answer .45GAP. That usually can get their hearts started. :D

"Favorite Caliber"?

Man! That's a tough one!

I love 'em all! :D :D :D

hmmmmm.... rimfire. That's the .22 MAAGGNNUUMM, for sure! I've been known as the "Magnum Master" ever since Ruger introduced the 10/22 MAAGGNNUUMM in 1999. I even like the .22LR out of a "tricked out" 10/22.

I love the .223 (AR15)..... .243 & .308 (AR10).......30/30 (Marlin 336)......
To borrow the sig line of someone else..... "If it shoots, I love it!"

You know that I ain't the "hooked one"!!!!! Ain't NO ONE that can do that!!

BTW..... I apologize to "RJ" if he took my response badly......

"EBR" ==== "Evil BLACK Rifle".......

The "cause" of the "ban".... RJ, your rifle ain't it.

No disrespect..........please! I like your new rifle! BUT! The STUPID "SHEEPLES" aka: Media.....has coined the phrase "ASSAULT RIFLE" from the name AR..........which was, and is....stands for ARMALITE!

The rifle just "looks" alot scarier than the common bolt action and the public has been led to believe that anyone owning one is a person that plans to "go postal" and shoot all his neighbors!

We've got some weenie liberal lawmaker here in Iowa that, in the past few days, is trying to get all the "assault" nasties outlawed here too.

I suppose before it's all over, we'll find how how big one of my favorite Iowans (Kane Robinson) nads are.

Kane spent an hour or so the day before yesterday on a talk show on WHO talking about guns and attitudes in genreal here in the state. I'm thinking he'll eventually pull a lot of NRA weight to bear on the situation before long if this stuff-for-brains doesn't back off.

We'll see soon enuf.

We love ya, ski! Don't go blowing your aorta on us!!!

Hey, how is the AR-10 coming along? Have you found a preferred load yet? Are you getting any good shooting days in, or still under the weather? Remember, it's Missourah - pretty soon you'll be into the phase, "if you don't like the weather now, wait five minutes, it'll change."

How do you like that MarkIV LRT scope? Which one do you have? Reticle?

ski
04-24-2005, 11:59 PM
Zirc,

I should have said that I had the "10" dialed in with the Remingtons and a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20X44.

I haven't had the chance to use the Leupold LRT on it yet. Didn't have a 30mm mount for the flat tops. Did dang good on the Volq. MAAGGNNUUMM, tho!

I just got a mount for the "10" and was supposed to get a case of Black Hills 168grn Match ammo. Gotta wait another 2 wks, for the ammo.

The scope has a fine crosshair with mil-dots, for ranging.

$1150........BUT!! AS Chief used to say......"If ya can't see it, Ya can't shoot it!"

Yeah, I know I can get BlackHills from alot of different sources......but,.....ya can't beat my dealer for prices or service!!

Walk into his shop....and meet Navy Seals, WWII, Korean, VietNam, Vets......Local LEOs......

Two thumbs......WAY UP! For Steve E. of Steves's Guns in Springfield.

When was the last time ya walked into a gun shop and the owner tossed ya a Barrett .50BMG cause he knew that you appreciated fine firearms??
