I heard from a local gun dealer that, Rossi is going to make a break-open single shot in..
7.62 x 39
Can someone verify that? I looked at Rossi's site, it was not on there.
Can you say happy dance? I knew you could. ;)

I've heard that NEF is already shipping barrels in that caliber as well.

i have heard both rumors, and either way i am kinda excited to get one (preferably NEF cut down to 16" with synthetic furniture) since i can't field my SKS.

Why? 7.62x39 is an anemic cartridge. Its only saving grace is that the SKS and AK47 are chambered for it. Quite effective in semi or full auto. I would just raise the bar and go 7.62x51 and have a real deer slayer/600 yd rifle.

I have a '06 for those needs.
Reason I was wanting that is, cheap ammo, and something that is alittle more accurate then the SKS/AK in that round.
Now, maybe something in 7.62 NATO in a single shot??? ;)

the 7.62x39 is anemic, granted, but then so is the .30-30 i suppose. i rarely see a shot at more than 75yds each deer season - well within the x39's effective range.
I agree with Path that perhaps the greatest boon to a gun/caliber as such is the cheap plinking/hunting ammo. the non-existance of recoil is nice too.
if only i'd got one of the single shots from EAA before "Big Green" took over importation and dropped that caliber from the line :( ......and they don't offer the .308 either.

Already one of those in the safe!
But would'nt it be nice to have one in 7.62x39 or even :OMG: x54R?
If you can buy(or assemble) 30-06 for 1.50 for 20 rounds.... I would do it too. But I dont think that is going to happen in the near future.
Thats my whole point, shooting should'nt break the bank.

What is your experience with the accuracy of the cheap stuff? I know it is adequate and you can make much noise on the cheap plinking - i.e. AK and SKS. However, If I had a single shot I would want consistent ammo. Just a question as I have not checked the consistency of the Wolf stuff - I just blast it :D
Pathfinder

Well, how would I know how consistant it is, if I am firing out of something that isn't? Touche'? ;) :P
Thats why I would like to know what it is doing with something I know I can drill 5 or 6 thru the same hole. :dunno:

i reckon the only thing that would hold me back from buying an H&R in 7.62x39 would be someone (are you listening CZ?.......) making a Left Hand bolt action first...
Pathfinder

I saw those, the CZ 527. Only thing that is holding me back on them is the price. The Rossi is thoeretically going to be under 200, the CZ, from what I have seen is over 500.
Thats why I got excited about the Rossi. :psycho:

I'll be excited when either one starts actually selling them. I have an SKS but it wasn't made for shooting targets. Minute of deer at it's effective range but definitely not minute of mouse.

I just got off of the phone with both companies, H&R and Rossi, they are definitely coming, Rossi told me sometime in 2nd quarter???? :dunno:
H&R will be in the Handi-rifle, not the Survivor

My TCR 87 with 7.62x39 barrel I made couple years ago. Shoots great, I think this cartridge is a good choice for a single shot.

Rossi's ad in the April 2005 issue of Shooting Illustrated (the NRA mag) lists following:
.243 Win, Heavy barrel
.223
.243 Win. Std. barrel
.270 Win
.308 Win
Obviously left out a bunch of other calibers like .30-06, .45 LC, .357 Mag, .44 Mag, and your 7.62 x 39

Did you make that in the .308 or the .312 size bore?
Paul Gauthier

Path
It is a .312. I originaly bought the barrel to put on a small ring mauser but that was going to e too much work altering the bolt face so I used it for the TCR.
