Today is the 93rd Anniversary of the m1911's acceptance into the US Army. We should all go out and celebrate by buying one (or more)!!

This, and J.M. Browning's birthday should be national holidays.

Then on 18 July (IIRC) we could celebrate the US Navy adopting the same pistol.
Quoting from William H. D. Goddard's book, The Government Models - The Development of the Colt Model of 1911 "... Moving with decisive speed, Ordnance adopted the Colt officially on Tuesday, March 28, 1911. Within less than one month, Colt had an initial order for 31,344 pistols and on July 18th, the Navy also formally adopted the Colt." * page 114
* D. G. Phelps, Personal Diary (Connecticut State Library, Colt's Collection, RG103, Box 24) <Footnote #59, page 159 of Goddard's book.>
"... On March 28, 1911, based on the recommendation of the Ordnance Department, the United States Army formally adopted the Colt Model of 1911 automatic pistol. ..." ** page 28
** D. G. Phelps, Personal Diary (Connecticut State Library, Colt's Collection,RG103, Box 54, entry for march 28, 1911. <Footnote #19, page 36>
Phelps was one of the BOD of Colt at the time.

I can't afford to go out and buy another one. So, I guess I'll have to go and shoot the ones I already have, this weekend!!
I may not have the M1911 but I am happy with the Colts that I have got.
