Q: What types of bullets were used when the gun was test fired by the Brady Center? Are those bullets legal?

A: The Brady Center recently purchased the Five-seveN from a Virginia retail gun dealer, along with 5.7 x 28 mm SS192 rounds of ammunition. The Brady Center test fired the weapon with these rounds and found it easily penetrated typical threat level IIA, Kevlar police body armor. This ammunition is legal to be sold to civilians.

I know this has been hashed over before but any insight on this? Is that true as I dont know much about the firearm/ammunition.

Only hollowpoint training ammo is legal for civilian sale and use. The Brady bunch should be investigated. They either had illegal ammo or they lied.

Many rounds will zip through "Bullet Proof vests" Unless you have the plates I wouldn't trust a vest. Better than nothing of course but past most handgun rounds you wont last.

of course a knife will penetrate a bullet proof vest as long as it doesnt have a knife shield. Arrows will to for that matter

The Five-seveN is a handgun, which I think is the point. The SS-192 training ammo is not built as AP - does not have the steel penetrator core - and should not be expected to defeat body armor. I did however note that it was TL IIA and not TL III armor. It also could have been some of the vests with the (recently discovered and proven) defective non kevlar fiber in it's makeup. All of those vests were (I think) recalled....but it would not surprise me for the Brady group to jump on defective vests as an opportunity.

I know it is a handgun, I am just saying that a AR handgun loaded with 62 grain AP bullets would do the same thing. As well as any number of handguns in rifle calibers.
