I was just over at Drudge and this picture stopped me in my tracks.

In fact, I can't even think of an appropriate smart aleck response....

On a cultural level it is quite surprising. Notice that he has his right hand on Bush's left hand. In Arab culture (oxymoron?) touching the left hand is bad ju-ju (it is the wiping hand  )

Bush is definitely in the power position. Will he use it?

Great point. I missed it entirely.

Slightly off-topic, but this little bit from Nealz Nuze (http://boortz.com/nuze/index.html) seems to sort of fit in...THE SAUDIS AND OIL PRICES

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah visited President Bush at his ranch in Crawford, Texas yesterday. The #1 subject was skyrocketing gas prices. The administration did a nice little job of trying to show that the president was talking tough to the Saudis...getting them to raise their production capacity by a couple million barrels of oil a day by 2009 (something they were probably going to do anyway.)

It all sounds so good, doesn't it? The only problem....none of it means anything. Sure, the price of crude oil is one component of the price of gasoline. But there's no shortage...and producing more isn't going to dramatically bring the price of gasoline down overnight. The real culprit lies right here in the United States, and it's something we could fix right away.

Cars don't run on crude oil...they run on gasoline that has to be refined. That's why the price of gas goes up on the weekends and so much in the summer. The last refinery was built in the United States in 1976 in Louisiana. Since that time, all we've done is consume more gasoline, without building any more refineries. The Saudis pointed this out yesterday.

The best way to lower oil prices would be to stop sucking up to Islamic terrorist-supporting countries like Saudi Arabia and do three things: develop a single blend that meets all of the environmental regulations nationwide, start building more refineries and start drilling for oil everywhere it might be in this country.

You might want to consider whether or not the environmentalists who have lobbied for the special blends while fighting the construction of any new refineries might be more to blame for the high gas prices than the Saudi weird-beards.

That still can't account for the doubling of prices in a years time.

Price gouging and pending panic can account for the recent dramatic increase in gasoline prices.

Crude oil has risen from $28 per bbl to $50+

Supply and demand is only one facet of the cause. Yes, gasoline prices in the US are driven by refinery capacity to some extent, however, we can't ignore the elephant running around the room.

Drill ANWR, drill the coasts, hell, drill my backyard if that is what it takes.

If the Arabs and other oil producers suddenly see their sales going somewhere else... like Anwar, for instance, the prices will come down.

Fast.

When is the first drop of oil from ANWAR expected, in 10+ years, provided we start today?

Apparently the price isn't high enough for the oil companies yet. I don't see them drilling the caps on a bunch of producers they've already drilled around here and capped till the price went up. I have noticed that they're drilling caps on a few high production caps here though.
