Rotty got my CETME fixed and returned to me today. When he and I and Crossdraw were in East MI with John Henry and GWhizzer a few weeks back, the old Spaniard started giving me fits. Bad hammer strikes, bad feeds, nearly impossible charging handle activation and on and on. I don't think even one round went off. Embarrassed me in front of my colleagues, I tell ya.
It turned out that a pin had worked loose that holds the extractor in place so Rotty put it back together correctly and peened the pin. I don't think I'd have found that ever. It is even more likely that good old Century International did a half-assed job putting it together as they have been doing with increasing regularity. Now they are refusing to even work on the guns they built citing "too many problems" as their reason. How's that for a customer service business decision. I hope they go belly up.
Now to get out this weekend and put 'er thru the wringer and give y'all a range report. I've owned this thing for almost three months and have only gotten about a box of ammo thru it. I now have about 500 rounds of x51 (.308) South African ball and I'm gonna light some fire. These rifles are so much fun and I've waited a long time for a semi-auto .308 so now I feel like a ten year old with a new bike.
Will report back as soon as I get it out to the range.
