We are doing fine here now.
Gas lines have gotten down to a 10 minute wait in most places and should be eliminated in a few days.
The grocery stores are now restocking fresh meat, veggies and dairy products.
power is back on to all but around 25,000 in the farther from town places.
we all woke up this morning to a cool breeze around 68...you have NO idea how good that felt (its usually around 80 by daybreak)!
and garbage trucks are starting to run again today.
As for damage, it will be a long time till it is cleaned up, and a lot of houses and businesses are a complete loss.
For many who survive, it will be a long time till things can be fixed. homeowners insurance on the coast (including inland for at least 100 miles) slapped on a 2% or more hurricane deductable a few years back...so most damage where your roof was lost is not covered, and talking to a fema rep yesterday, I learned that at least the first $500 of damage will not be helped by them. and it may take a LONG time for any additional help from the gov't unless your house was a total loss.
I feel blessed having come through it with only a few hundred dollars in roof damage, a couple 100 foot pines down (they have already been chain-sawed)
and a few other things.
But all in all Mobile Alabama is doing fine....and we continue to pray for those in Mississippi who were the hardest hit, but who receive the least amount of national press exposure.
If you want to help..please give money to the Red Cross..they have done and are continueing to do an amazing job.
