Swiffers

Does anyone use those Swiffer mops (or a variation of)??

I was thinking about buying one.... Do they actually get up dirt or is it strictly for "light duty"? It is such a pain to get out the regular mop, water, etc, every time-- and our kitchen floor really ought to get cleaned every day-- but I don't want to waste our money if it's not going to really clean.

Becky,
Glad you asked. I am curious to know also. :D

I have not tried the Swiffer mop but I do have one of the Swiffer sweepers. I can sweep the floor with a broom then go over it with the swiffer & still pick up stuff!
The swiffer sweeper is also what I use to clean the dust off the ceiling fans blades. Dust will cling to the cloth instead of falling to the floor as it does with other cloths or the feather duster.

I think my wife wants me to learn how to use one. Are they hard to use? Do they come in sizes to fit men? :D BD

Okey dokey, then.... I have both and love them! The duster does indeed get all the little stuff. The wet one does clean well. The trick with both is using them more frequently, but they are so easy to use that I have no problem doing it more frequently. With the dry one, you don't have to go over it again and again, as with a broom. And the wet one is so quick (with the cleaner fluid hitched right to the mop) that it's no problem to do it even every day or so, so the floor doesn't get that dirty.
I agree that the prospect of getting out a pail, mop, cleaner, water, then wringing the mop, changing the water and putting every last thing away is discouraging -- BLEAGH! So, I'd procrastinate forever.

All right, all right, you talked me into it...

And if it's really convenient I might even be able to teach someone else in this house how to use it.

Our kitchen floor just gets messy real easy and then Justin will eat off the floor cause that's where the food ends up and I swear I could mop it 2 or 3 times a day and it would still look bad. I have convinced myself that if I just need to grab one of those Swiffers, instead of dragging out all kinds of stuff, that it would be alot easier on me. I wouldn't mind doing it every day, or even twice a day, if it was some 3-minute deal, but regular mopping is a major event, I totally hate it.

And... they're so compact that I just prop it between the jelly cupboard and the hutch, so I can just grab it up. Hardly notice it's there.

My wife started using the Swiffers (dry, and later wet 'mop') awhile back. They seemed to work. I have a small cleaning service and started using the wet Swiffers on some bare floors. They work really well.

BD: tell your wife (sound disappointed) that you got it from a good source that the Swiffers do not fit a man's hands. In fact, tell her that you heard that they have been know to make men sterile. Then tell her that they are designed to help improve a woman's already near perfect figure. Lot's of luck, ole friend.

I have all tile floors except in the bedrooms. When I need to clean, I just drag the cat around. He is the original Swiffer Sweeper. He also really, really hates me.

BD: I may be dumb, but I ain't stupid. I was hoping you would try it first and then tell me how it works.

Liberatarian: next time, try spraying the cat with floor polish first, for that extra shine.

I use a dry version of one of them and it works good, sometimes just use the dry sheets by hand and just wipe things down.

That is what I was just going to say myself. I get tired of putting them on the "sweeper" so I just use the wipes to dust. However, the sweeper is great for hard to reach places like corners to get cobwebs. I feel that I have used it enough to justify the $20 investment. I haven't tried the wet/mop thingy yet but want too.

I personally hate them they don't pick up all the dirt. My mother-in-law likes to use hers on her wood floors and she says they work great. I used them on my no way floors and they don't pick up much of anything. The swiffer dry just doesn't work for me maybe others but not me. I am thinking about trying swiffer wet the clorox one and I am still not sure it would kill germs. I use the bucket because I use Lysol on my floors and on the kitchen counters and I like the smell. I live in Marana Arizona and it can get pretty dusty out here and I guess for now I will stick with my broom.
