Do you have a "black thumb?"

You've heard of a "green thumb?" Well, between me and Deb, we've got 4 black thumbs. How bad are we at keeping houseplants? Well, we've managed to somehow "kill" two silk ficus trees! ;)

Actually, it's really only a matter of them looking dusty, 'cause we never figured out an easy way to clean them. Not to worry, though. We just moved 'em out of our den, and put them in a couple of planters on our front porch, and strung Christmas lights in 'em. Now they look mighty pretty, and we'll get some new fake ficus trees for the den after all the repairs/remodeling is done.

Deb does have several African violets that were given to her by some of her students. All of these are not only still alive, but flourishing. They have continued blooming for several years now. She keeps 'em on the windowsills above the kitchen sink, and they get plenty of water and, apparently, just the right amount of light.

So, how are YOU at houseplants?

Let me go look at my house plants. OH wait.....I don't have any...because they were dead, dead, dead, and dead. I had an ivy I had for years and OU812 cat killed it.

Black thumb is dead on. I have got to the point where I go to the nursery (plant store), but a dead plant and have them throw it out. Saves time and frustration.

LMAO! That is a timesaver for sure :D

I have a green thumb. I have close to 50 house plants. They are all alive well. :)
In the spring I move about 1/2 of them out to my patio until fall.

I don't have many flowering houseplants though. I prefer foliage plants indoors so they don't drop flowers all over the place.

I have a question and I think I deserve an answer to it. I have so much fun here and I think everyone is cool. I have my favoites and I don't have my favorites. But we don't need to go there. SO my question is what is wrong with everyone? Why do y'all hate Christmas? What did it ever do to you?

Why can't y'all enjoy the holidays and be friends and quit all the fighting and bickering. I know the holidays are full of stress due to all the shopping, but dang it stop all the fighting.

Why can't y'all see the true meaning of Christmas. See the beauty of it and cherish the love around you and put your differences aside. I know it's easier said than done but can y'all try. My Dad passed away 4 days after Christmas and I get depresed but I know that Jesus was born this day and I think that is important. I hope no one gets upset because I said all of this but I felt I had to. I stay out of personal issues between others because it's non of my business. But enough is enough.

If y'all want to get mad at me and tell me off that is your right and I can take the heat. But this fighting really needs to stop and taken to a private email list so you can straighten this out in private.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone by this but I don't normally say anything until now. I like this board and the people in it and would like to keep comming back. I hope y'all understand where I am comming from.

Thank you for listening. Now you can tell me off if you want and I will just leave.

Hey Pathfinder,

Nothing is seriously happening. I just wanted to say that all this Christmas bashing is getting old. Forgive the bluntness, but like I said Can we put this aside and enjoy the holidays?

I just watched the interview with Mr. Heston. It was a good interview and I have a huge respect for the man and I hope he doesn't suffer. I just hope he spends his days with his family and enjoys life.

I will miss him.

No problem cp :D I won't tell ya off, but I have to ask ya a question, what does Christmas and bickering and such have to do with houseplants? :o :D I'm laughing because you sound more stressed out than I do :) Don't let the Holidays get to you, enjoy your baby boy, your husband and your family :) I too am extremly stressed and it gets to me, but I keep thinking what my little girl's face is going to look like on Christmas morning (I think I am more excited than her!). That helps me out alot when I am stressed. Think of your little boy and the fun he will have unwrapping the presents :) He is too little to get all excited and anxious several months beforehand ;) but he is going to have a BLAST! Hang in there cp, you have lots of prayers coming that way. :)

As for houseplants: I have a greenish blackish thumb LOL Some live very long, I have two (don't know what they are, one is called a mother in law tongue I know that much) and had them since they were small, now they are HUGE! I also have those ones that hang down, kinda grow like Ivy, that one has been growing nicely. The ones that flower, die within a week they don't like me. Those fragile ones are like time bombs, I don't bother anymore with them. I'm going to have Rammy come over and take some of my plants to the hospital :D

I can't have a houseplant I always kill it to. Fake ones I can deal with because I can always dust those off and tell people that that is the only plant I can have.

I hope your little ones Christmas is a great one. Yes my little one will have a total blast at grandmas. I am abit stressed I think my call to my minister helped with my upcomming surgery.

Thank you Sandy for listening. Im had a feeling you would understand where I was comming from.

Black thumb here too. That is why I plant Hostas outside. I have yet to kill one of them cuz they are so danged hard to kill! :)

Ex-husband #2 had this really cool 5 foot tall cactus that my dear kitty, Cabria killed by chewing on the thingies that stick out.

I missed all the bickering and I am actually glad that I did. A word of advice: if FFF starts to stress you out, do what I do take a break for a day or two. It usually helps me. I have enough stress to deal with in the real world that I do not need any in from the cyber world! Have a great Christmas! :)

Aren't they great? And no matter if you do anything to them or not; they come back year after year and get bigger and better with each year! Now that's my kind of gardening! :D
