Here's some thought provoking information -
The next time you hear a politician use the word "billion" in a
casual manner, think about whether you want the "politicians"
spending your tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising
agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective
in one of its releases.

a.. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

b.. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

c.. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

d.. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

e.. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the
rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look
at New Orleans! - It's amazing what you can learn with some simple
division
............

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the
Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans.
Interesting number, what does it mean?

Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every
man, woman, child), you each get $516, 528.

Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, your home
gets $1,329,787.

Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington, D.C. !!!...........................Are all your
calculators broken????

Maybe everyone should just flood their houses, then we can all be
on the "big easy" street for the rest of our lives, and forget
about working, and paying taxes and all that useless stuff!

Now you understand how a man could have sold the purchasers aboard my ship towels at $50.00 apiece in 1985.:(

New Orleans was never worth $250 billion. Congress is blind to numbers. They casually say millions and billions and only stop at trillion because they can't even guess what that means.

Good post John Henry!

Why the h*ll do folk think that other folk should have to pay for their choice of where they wish to live? If you choose to live in a hurricane zone, and you lose your home, that should be between you and your insurance company. If you choose live in tornado alley, and you lose your home, that should be between you and your insurance company. If you choose to live on a fault line, and you lose your home, that should be between you and your insurance company. If you choose to live on a flood plain, and you lose your home, that should be between you and your insurance company. Failed to purchase or can not afford the proper insurance? How the h*ll is that my problem!? Why am I suppose to be financially responsible for where you choose to settle down?

This is a very long but worthwhile read. It's a story told by Representative Davy Crockett of a conversation he had with one of his constituents, that touches on this issue.

I agree with Gusgus 100% It is not my problem. A person makes choices in life. WIth choices come responsibility.

Which one of the "congress-critters" said a few years back;
"A million here, a million there, after while you're talking about some serious money".

It makes me sick we're gonna be stuck with paying for New Orleans. Maybe some of the people in Missouri that got hit with tornadoes can petition the gov't to pay them. Next earthquake that hits Cali could get expensive but not to worry. The American taxpayer will pay for it. Sheesh.

 We got about 3 or 4 inches of rain in the past two days. Pretty much wiped my spring garden out. Where do I apply for the thousands it was worth?
