Read any good books lately?

I really don't read much besides my school books, however I did read a really good book two weeks ago. It is by John Edward and is called What if God were the Sun. Its a really good book about life after death on a psychic sort of level (yeah Im into that stuff). I recommend it to anyone and it isn't a very long book so it doesn't take forever to read.

Evening, Sandy! :)

I tend to switch off between books, to keep the interest alive, so I'm reading a few right now (not all at once though...). Right now, I'm reading a bit about gardening (Gardening for Dummies), world-wide archeology finds, and a book on Native American myths and traditions (Arickara tribe).

I just finished a really neat one called "1000 Meters Down" - about a caving expedition in France in the 1950's, where they went caving and discovered a underground river. Awesome pics of cave formations and the expedition - a wonderful book!

Terri,
I always wanted to read one of those magazines but I never have! My granny told me I would go blind if I did! :eek

I haven't done much reading lately. This time of year I mostly look at gardening magazines & catalogs. :)
Right now I am reading Carolina Moon by Nora Roberts. I have had it for a couple of months & just started it last night :D

I've read too many to list! I go thru a lot of books...I read very fast and I have to read every day. It's the only thing that keeps me semi sane!

I just finished Clive Cussler's latest Dirk Pitt novel, Atlantis. It was awesome. I have yet to be disappointed by any of his books, even if they are rather predictable. I'm not sure what I will pick up next, I will have to check my stacks!

Otter,
I read every day too :)
Just lately I have not read any books.
Before the computer I used to read 3-4 books a week. That was my nighttime entertainment :D

Hi, everyone!
Rammy, I am also reading Carolina Moon right now! It's pretty good, isn't it? I've read most of Nora Roberts' books, and ALL of the ones she's written as J.D.Robb. If you haven't read those, they are police drama/romance books, and they chronicle the life of a female police lieutenant named Eve Dallas. There are 12 in the series so far, and I've read them all - TWICE! Do you get the idea I enjoy them?
Otter, glad to hear Atlantis is a good book. I haven't read one of his books for a while, so guess I will get this one.
I read 2-3 books a week, so I will be visiting this forum regularly to get the latest info! :D
BTW, I also frequent the used book store here in town. I'm such a good customer, when the owners went to Ireland on vacation last summer, they brought me back a beautiful Irish linen bookmark. It's gorgeous, but absolutely too pretty to use!

Great Gran,
Howdy & welcome to our new home :)
I love Nora Roberts & read everything she writes. I especially like the trilogies. I usually buy them as they come out but wait to start reading until I have all three of them. I hate starting the first one & having to wait to see how the last one ends :D

I read the J.D. Robb books also. My hubby never could understand why I kept buying the In Death books. I think he was afraid I was looking for ideas :p

I don't read the way I once did. Partially due to the computer and paertially due to being too busy with other things.
But my favorite author is Joseph Wambaugh. He is a 14 year veteran of the LAPD and writes mostly non-fiction but a little fiction as well, all of a police related nature.

Welcome Great Gran!!!! :)

Deb..I like those dummies books! I am going to get the A+ certification for dummies seeing that I am taking an at home course in and and can't figure out alot of stuff, so the name fits me well ;)

Turtle....Yes do read that! I beleive in that stuff as well trust me on that. My Grandma died in October, knew Sammi loved butterflies and ladybugs. Well the day of her wake we had an infest of ladybugs! I never saw so many in my life. Now that spring is here we have a TON of butterflies. Its just really weird I can't help but to believe it is her. That book is really good. :)

Wow Otter how the heck do you find time to read novels? I've tried and never succeeded LOL :)

I read Robin Cook when I want suspense :)

Ooops, the Dirk Pitt book is called Atlantis Found...I forgot a word up there!

I read Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb books as well. I also love mysteries and have several favorite authors. That is where my paycheck goes!

Sandy, I have always been a reader. I read fast, and I make sure I read every day. Remember, I don't have little ones around to occupy my time and I don't sleep much either, unfortunately. I also read a lot of non fiction, especially marine biology stuff and lots of wildlife stuff. And those are even longer than novels! I also read a lot of historical stuff, and I am fascinated by anything about forensics and anthropology.

Not to mention I have a HUGE childrens' book collection! :)

Otter,
You & Krisan could have a ball together :)
She got interested in that forensic stuff while taking her psychology classes.

Hi. I'm Grayfox and I'm a reader!
Hi Grayfox

I tell ya, with a lot of sheeple if you try to talk about a book you like, they give you this wide eyed look and say "You really READ? Where do you find the time? But, books are so booooring!
What a bunch of maroons! Why a good book and a little imagination can take you places and create images that hollywood FX crews would kill for. BTW: The book is always better than the movie.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to read as much as I'd like, but I still manage to knock out between 6 or 7 a year. And yes, this damned computer is part of the reason.

Good books I've read lately:
Timeline by Michael Crichton
Cuba by Stephen Coonts

The must read for all gun owners:
Unintended Consequences by John Ross

Currently reading:
Lines and Shadows by Joseph Wambaugh
Bill & Terri gave me this one. Thanks guys!

What a great thread. Thx, Sandy. :)

Count me among those who love to read. I don't read much fiction. I like military history, social anthropology, folklore and whatever else catches my eye.

Most recent books read are Bobo's in Paradise (The New Upper Class and How They Got There) by David Brooks and The Vanishing Hitchhiker (American Urban Legends & Their Meanings) by Jan Harold Brunvand.

Did I mention that I love to read? :) In grammar school, I was the kid reading something like Day of the Triffids (a sci-fi classic written by John Wyndham) rather than the assigned lesson material.

To say that I was always in some scrap or trouble with the Nuns is an understatement. ;)

I used to read a lot when I was younger, but haven't had the time to in the last few years. But now I'm starting again. Right now I'm going through Terry Pratchett's Discworld-series. I read mostly scifi, good fantasybooks (if I can find any at the local libraries...) and sometimes horror. (Again, if I can find anything good. And no, anything by Stephen King is not good horror literature!)

Rammy, Krisan might want to read Dead Men Do Tell Tales by William R. Maples, Ph.D.
I found it truly fascinating. If I ever give up on this marine biology/environmental ed career switch I am pursuing I may change directions completely and go into forensic anthropology. Then again I may go back to my first career choice from my younger days: beach bum!!! :D

Gray, my two big reads for my 2 week break are Unintended Consequences and Atlas Shrugged. Oh, and Eternal Darkness, by my hero Bob Ballard. :)

Like a lot of you here, I have lost the art of reading a real book. I read a lot of periodicals and newspapers.

I used to read a couple of books a week, some fiction, some non fiction. I would say my favorite was "Earth Abides" by George R. Stewart.

I learned to love reading from the beginning, and it still stays with me today, thank goodness. Grayfox is certainly right; the book is always better than the movie.

Jurassic Park is a perfect example. The movie was great entertaiment, with super special effects. The book, however, was very thought provoking, with a deep theme that the movie barely touches on.

Otter, so you're a Dirk Pitt fan, huh? Me too. Granted, they have become predictable, but I still like to see what kind of mess Dirk ends up in and how he gets himself out. I alos like to see how Cussler works himself into each novel. And fer sure, I'd love to own Pitt's collection of cars, trains, airplanes (a Tri-Motor and an ME-262!) as well as the few other "items" he has collected from his adventures (remember the bathtub with the outboard motor and the part it played?)

Latest books I have read were by L. Neil Smith, Pallas and Forge of The Elders. I'm not normally a sci-fi fan, but L. Neil is so strongly Libertarian, I just had to pick up a couple and see what they were like. Good reads, both; lots of food for thought, and definitely pro-RKBA!

Used to read a lot but got online and have cut down but need to get back to reading and reduce my time online.

Terri why does your reply not suprise me! :D

The book usually is better than the movie but it depends on what kinda movie it is  :p Then again ive never seen those kind of movies written about!

UC been there done that one and another I think just as good for gun owners is Clayton e cramer For the defence of themselves and the state. I personally dont know anyone besides myself that has read it was its very dry legal information but I thought it was excellent. It shows the full legal happenings regarding gun control and its origins.

I loved Judy Blume! Remember Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.? We must, we must, we must increase our bust! :D

I also remember having to get a note from my mom to check "Forever" out of the library...

Richard...I love Dirk Pitt. This latest one had quite an interesting twist in it. I do remember the bathtub, and I wish I had that car collection too! And yes, it is fun seeing how Cussler works himself into the story...sort of like looking for Waldo in Where's Waldo! ;)

I finished Unintended Consequences about a week ago. Fantastic!!

Does anyone remember a VERY old children's book called Live Dolls, or something like that? You'd have to be my age to remember it. I think it's LOOOOOONG out of print, but I'd love to find an old copy.
