Name your top 10 things that you will need if the SHTF?

1) Water

2) Food

3) Shelter

4) Weaponry w/ ammo

5) First Aid

6) Radio

7) Transportation

8) Barter items

9) Something to start a FIRE!

10) Land

Expand it how you wish, but remember use what you have or can afford. Lets try to stay away from the "takeover" scenario.;)

Might try adding some friends to the list, even if they don't always agree with you. Especially not agreeing with you on the idea of SHTF.

I think that is a perfect list.

Seems appropriate now that we are being pounded by thunderstorms with localized flooding.

Quick, send FEMA  Cancel that!

Good list. Friends would be important to me also. And I always have can openers.

Guys a p-38 is mighty handy out in the field, but for real world living I'll go with something a bit larger. After about the third can you open with a p-38, your fingers get a bit worn down.

If I was going to be moving around during a crisis I'd want a compass, local map and a gps (with extra batteries). A good multi-fuel lantern and flashlight would come in very handy too.

Cooking gear,

neighbor has the fire wood,

We just re-did the garage and are re-stocking the food in the
cabinets to rotate the food out.

We used the gas we had in there and refilling them back up too.

First aid is always filled.

remember that most soldiers who died in the civil war died from simple wound infections....so add to the list:

Alcohol and/or peroxide
antibiotics
asperin (or willow trees to make yer own) and tylonal for the kids.

Faith in God. The physical preps too, but Faith is in my mind the most important prep you can have.

I too have most of that within 20 feet. I think the most important extra might be company. Can't buy or grow eyes in the back of your head!

Good list, I would add some cash to that.

Bob, now you have me wondering, if it really hit the fan, how important would cash be?

bob winfield

Well, say you need something you don't have. Would need to be a real emergency, life threatening, someone has it, but won't barter or trade, no atm's for a while.

Would cash be worth anything anymore?

bob winfield

Probably to some, who might think they were going to become wealthy, by capitalizing on others. I don't think cash would be good for very long, it might help in the beginning.

SHTF = a coupla weeks to a coupla months.

TEOTWAKI = ain't coming back

Cash will have value in a SHTF scenario and can be used for starting fires in the TEOTWAKI scenario.

you better have a good understanding of nature and how to hear what she tells you

To an extent, Tony, I agree with you. If it's a shtf situation, nature will be your ally if you let it. In an apocalypse, nature may well be as confused as you are. Whether its a titanic volcanic explosion, a metor impact or a nuclear detonation... nature will not be a friend, just neutral at best.

I waited a couple of days to respond to this..

I never said I would be "bugging out or bugging in" without friends or family. I was just trying to get some thoughts on it.

On the money thing, thats why I put barter items.

As we have seen in the past, barter/trade/cash will have very little meaning to a great many - who intend to TAKE and live off others. :(

In my opinion, survival should never be planned as a solo expedition. ;)

Dang it.
