Dial-up problems

I had consulted Alan about this, and it turns out he has been having the same problem. I have dial-up internet access and am finding that, lately, it redials anywhere from 3 to lord-knows-how-many times before connecting, and that's with no busy signal! It also will start to connect, having provided user ID and password, and then fails anyway. This seems to have gotten worse in the last couple months. Does anyone have the same problem, or perhaps a remedy that we might try? Can't be that the entire phone system in the country is "noisy."

Mine is the same way, and SLOWalso. My sys. even has to put the password in twice.

My daughter has been having the same problem, I thought it was just her ISP. She is near OKC & has been having that problem for over a month. When she was on fall break from school in Oct., she had to go to a friend's house & use her cable modem to do some research on the net.

I don't have dial up so I haven't had a problem here , yet. But if something is going on with the phone lines it may soon hit the DSL too.

This has been an on going problem for me on all sites and the 'net as a whole since I first came on line a little over six years ago that is becoming increasingly troublesome. I thought it was just Triple F and would not have been surprised given the technical problems we have experienced. But when I compared us to other discussion sites I found mcuh the same thing. I immediately blamed AOL, my ISP, since they are often responsible for trouble and are lame in their service for the most part. But after sorting everything out I have came to the conclusion that a lot of the problems with the site and my ISP are not directly related to them.
I'm starting to think it is nothing more than the huge volume of the people on the Internet. Everyone and their dog has a PC connected to the 'net these days and half the dogs have more than one account.
