For the Children
Legislature to ask Golden State docs to help curb violence.
By Judith Weizner, a writer living in New York
June 12, 2001 9:30 a.m.

Encouraged by its recent success in securing the medical establishment's cooperation in reducing gun violence, the California State legislature is currently considering a bill that would require doctors to question their school-age patients about the prevalence of risky leisure-time behaviors in their homes.

Rep. Barbara Medlar, sponsor of the Golden State Childhood Medical Practitioner Assistance Act (GSCMPAA), says the law would compel pediatricians to ascertain each patient's injury-probability index by means of a questionnaire to determine whether the youngsters engage in dangerous activities when they are not in school.

"Childhood play injuries cost taxpayers and insurance companies $154,000,000,000 every year, and if we are to rein in health costs, we must get a grip on this problem," Ms. Medlar says. "But this isn't just about dollars and cents. Our government has a duty to protect its children."

(When did that law pass? The US government has the duty to protect and observe the actions of every individual citizen??)

This sickens me. **** like this makes me think we will be fighting a revolution within five years. A law stating that a licensed driver has to keep their hair shorter than 2½" because they might be too stupid to turn their head when changing lanes? Come on! How about this...
"Childhood play injuries cost taxpayers and insurance companies $154,000,000,000 every year, and if we are to rein in health costs, we must get a grip on this problem," Ms. Medlar says.
How does that compare to the amount of my tax dollars that the Klinton administration has given to the UN and some "needy" third world countries? And to prosecute parents for not reporting a child's posession of a water pistol? Gimme a break! We need to see if Mexico wants to buy Kalifornia and all of it's government officials for one small lump sum.

Many have suggested it is a satire only I did not have time to investigate but ofcourse left a link its orgin and KABA who listed the article for me to find.
It was also brought out that many the laws we have today would have once sounded like satire to us.

This has got to be a satire. It was fairly plausible until the part about the legislature passing a law that required 2 1/2 inch hair length. And the governor vetoing it because he wouldn't get re-elected.
