Drive along scenario (NS#56?) |

This happened to my ex-boss.
You're driving along to check out a location. It is a house that is reported vacant and totally trashed. You hear that druggies have been found in there from time to time, but you are into renovating old beat up houses.
You're going at about 9 a.m. figuring the druggies are still sleeping it off....aaahhh, there it is. You are preparing to make a right turn when a big Cadillac backs out of a driveway blocking your forward movement. In the driver's hand is a nickle plated .44 revolver.
Then you look at your rear view mirror and see a panel van come roaring out of another driveway behind you and he blocks your retreat. That driver steps out of the van with a sawed off shotgun and starts walking towards your car.
You duck down.
Now what do you do? You have a CCW and your cell phone.
The driver in the Cadillac leans out of the driver's window and ears back the hammer on the revolver. Behind you, the shotgun man ears back the hammers on his sawed off shotgun.
What are you going to do?

With all this encouragement we've given you, you had to go and pull a tough one out of your hat didn't you?
I'd have to put it in reverse and try to get the guy with the shotgun moving away from me while I kept low as possible. Then I would try to drive through yards, on sidewalks or wherever it takes to keep my vehicle moving away from the BGs. I don't see any way out of this one except to run until I can put some distance between me and them or find decent cover. I don't think I'd even consider trying to fire my weapon or make a call until I stopped. At any rate I don't think I'd leave my vehicle until it quit running. Unless I had a couple of grenades........... :D BD

Well, the first thing I'd do is toss the cell phone in the direction of the guy with the shotgun, and yell, "It's for you!" ;) (Calling 911 seems a little pointless here.) I would attempt to accelerate my vehicle forward around the Caddy (I'll take my chance with the pistol vs. the shotgun); or I might simply ram the Caddy in the driver's side door. (The driver was leaning out, presumably in my direction; ergo, he must be backing out from the left side of the street, and he is vulnerable. If not, there must be room to go around him, on somebody's lawn.) If I hit him hard enough to shake him up, but not enough to disable my car, I back up (as far down on the seat as possible) in the direction of the other guy. He bails, and I find somewhere to go.

New to this forum -
I drive a larger than average pickup. First, drive as fast in reverse, as I can, towards the shotgun BG, until neuttralized or in the ditch(him not me) then I think I would do my best to crush the caddy. After that, see exactly how fast the V8 will make my truck go.

Well the guy with the greatest mobility (the one out with the shotgun) gets my 2000 pound bullet directed at him to take him out, or failing that get him in front of me too so that both BG's are in one general direction. so I only have to provide cover for myself in one direction, and have hopefully cut the odds inhalf. THen it's a decision of can I get around the vehicle behind me without disabling mine. If I can then I keep backing up and run. If not I keep the engine between me and them and angled so I can exit under cover If it looks like I got time I'll get the rifle from the back seat and let em have it. IF not then I guess I go to work on em with my handgun. Somwhere in ther I identified myself as a LEO. As soon as they drop their weapons or are unable to use them I'll secure ( I have both duct tape and heavy duty wire ties in the jeep.) them and get the uniforms on the way.
This would be a bad one though the ambushers have all the odds in their favor my chances of success don't look really good unless the bg's are total clods.

I have to agree with most of what's been written already. My vehicle is my best and biggest weapon at this point and I think backing up and attempting to take out the BG behind me is what I'd do, then drive like a bat outta heck and get outta there using lawns, driveways, sidewalks whatever I have to to get out. If I have to smash into the guy in the Caddy to get my vehicle out of the area, oh well. ;)

Hmh. Where's my post?!? Damn. (Probably clicked "Preview" by mistake and logged off the computer in a hurry...? )
Anyways, trying to drive away would be a good idea if possible. My little car wouldn't make much of a monster truck so I might find my way blocked. I'm guessing from the weapons used that these guys can't be undercover cops or anything like that, still, I'd like to be able to issue them one verbal warning before using deadly force. Unfortunately in this scenario (assuming there is no way I can drive out of there) this might not be possible.
Yup, running over either one of them would be a good idea. I'd prefer to try the shotgun man, like I said my car isn't all that big and the guy with the revolver is somewhat protected by his car. After that, shoot the bastids if they're still a threat. (The scenario specifically mentioned having a CCW.) And when the immediate threat is neutralized, then it is time to use the cell phone. Not to mention haul ass out of there.

My boss,
being the man he is...was leasing this new SUV (Mitsubishi???) chose to hit the floorboards(he hoped the SUV wouldn't sustain any damage)....the two guys were rival drug dealers and started firing at each other, totally missing all three vehicles. As they were busy reloading, he got enough room somehow to cut past the caddy and got the heck out of Dodge.
We knew this was true because it was verified by one of our inspectors who was one car behind the van...his truck was hit by three rounds. (Talk about being an innocent victim) He was supposed to meet the boss at the site. He refused to go up in that area again.

Demolition Derby time.
Back up and ram the van enough times to get it out of your way, then get the aitch-ee-double-hockeysticks out of there. Demolition Derby drivers like to rear-end things, because front-ending them is likely to put your engine out of business.
If you can get the guy with the shotgun in the ramming process, so much the better.
IIRC, shotguns and handguns won't penetrate windshield glass. So it's key to not let the BGs get to your side.
When you have a chance, hit the 911 button on your cellphone. (Since it's been in over fifty life-threatening situations with you, it durn well should have a one-button 911. )
