It has been shipped!!!!

After 15.5 months my 1887 has finally been shipped -- Coyote Cap over extended himself and orders overwhelmed him. "Cap" stated that my early serial numbered gun did not meet his specs and could not get it to function to his satisfaction after replacing many parts. So, he is shipping me a gun 26 numbers earlier that does not have quite as nice of wood (walnut) as the other -- almost a two-digit serial number. He did do a "full race gun" action job for me, as he had my order so long.

I am really looking forward to finally getting it home.:D Unfortunately, Monday will be the middle of deer season, so I may just have to wait a few days to shoot it.:(

Apparently, Coyote Cap's guns are pretty tight tolerances in the headspacing. This means if you reload for it you need to use the correct hulls. Looks like Win "AA" is the choice and have to be full length resized to work and he recommends factory fresh loads for matches. I'll do a "Maxiball" and experiment a bit even though I have at least 10,000+ AA hulls out here in the shop.

I did like it when he told me not to be gentle with it when shucking ammo.:D Treat it like a Marlin and all will be fine. It will take some getting used to that l-o-n-g lever swing, though. I sure like that "top-two" speed feed system he invented for them.

It is either an early Christmas gift to me this year or a belated one from last year.;)

Rich

Rich,
Has it really been that long as I remember you ordering it. They say the best things in life are worth waiting for and sounds to me like this'll be one of those.:)
Hope it's what you hoped for and look forward to a range report.
My own gun deer season opens next Thursday and me with a week off work for the purpose.:D

Brian,
Thanks. Yeah, our modern gun season opens in the morning. I've got the .41 out and hope to get a doe for Dad's freezer in the morning. The legal bucks have all but disappeared around here. I haven't seen anything but forked horns and spikes in over a month. They must have a hook up with the AG&FC in Little Rock, because they get scarce this time of year.

Good luck to you next week, too.
Regards,
Rich

I'm glad to hear that its headed your way finally! I knew that Cap would come through for you. Its hard to imagine how backlogged he's been with these 87 orders. Are you planning on using the Magtech brass hulls in your 87?

As to the deer hunting, when I was down that way I used to do a lot of my hunting down around Mountainburg, that area used to produce pretty well for me over on the west side of the state. I did quite a bit of hunting on the east side too around Walnut Ridge and down around Black Oak.

Mike,
Yeah, he is really backlogged and can only do one or two guns a day. Plus, Curly Bill has had many health setbacks over the past year or so that have prevented him from helping too much.

No, I will be using AA hulls for the time being. It is headspaced for AA hulls.

The gun is a Coyote Cap Special Edition with the serial numbe making it one of the 2005 guns with a serial number in the CC-05-0016X range, so it is a very low serial number indeed. Cap tossed in $186.95 worth of work (full race action & top gun) due to the delay in delivery and not being able to deliver the shotgun he had promised me. Makes up for the wood not being as nicely figured -- it is still decent walnut for guns these days, just nothing to write home about. I haven't shot the gun, but the action sure seems pretty slick -- I am betting it is fast enough to shoot doubles on the skeet range. :D

Here's what I ended up with:

Model M-87WSE-20 Coyote Cap Special Edition (frame has the serial number and Coyote Cap Special Edition in gold)
Full Race Action & Top gun (top two feed)
Install Win-Choke System
(3) chole tubes; Cylinder .730, Modified .710, and Extra full .690 (he tossed in the last two choke tubes)
Sporting Clays (Pachmyr Decelerator) recoil pad
12" LOP -- 4 degree for CAS
drill & tap barrel for #4 front bead

I guess you used to hunt down around White Rock and Devil's Den up Mountainburg way. I am almost on the Carroll County border here in northwest Benton County.

Rich

Budroe and Del,

I'm planning on getting a new computer on "Black Friday" and hope to learn how to use the wife's digital camera and will post pictures soon -- hopefully. :D

It has been a very long wait, but I believe I will be pleased with it. The gun sure is lite-weight and with the short butt stock I am betting it will kick pretty good. :D

Rich

Rich:
That gun sounds versatile with those choketubes, something that can be used for busting birds as well as CAS. My experience with 87's has been with shooting a buddy's original 87 in 12 Gauge. His gun has a 30 inch full choked barrel and he only runs blackpowder loads through it. Get into an eigth round shotgun segment of a CAS stage and it looks like you've touched off a 12 pounder with all the smoke on the firing line. One thing that I've noticed with the 87's is that they do point very well and naturally, makes em great for busting clays or birds.

Yep I hunted down around Devils Den used to do a lot of hunting around there when I was in my teens and along the river bottoms around Ft. Smith.
