This is what I get for thinking too much.
I got no venison in gun season.
Still have muzzle season comming up.
Got to thinking since I load slugs, why could I not load 12 gauge slugs in my Thompson Center 12 gauge m.l.?
Why not a roundball?
I got some.
A 525 Lyamn slug over 100 grains of 2fg orta kill sum'pin.
Pro'ly the shooter.:(

Seems to me you are worrying about the wrong problem. ;)
Might behoove you to look for fresh deer tracks instead of worrying about yet another exotic slug? :dunno:

Check to see if a smooth bore muzzleloader is legal for the season. If so, I see no reason not to use a 12 bore if it shoots well at the range you want to use it for.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. That was horrible.
Matter o' fact I was in the woods right beside the house and there are deer tracks everywhere.
I think I'll just shoot from the bedroom window.:D

Smoothbore muzzleloaders are legal in Ohio. Its still a primitive rifle weapon. Shooting a slug from a 12 gau should be legal since its pretty much like a maxiball ;)

Maxi..
On the other hand, shooting a deer from your bedroom brings the perfect opportunity to do a double test. You can test your super slug for overpenetration in a house, and killability on a deer with the same shot!.

I caught that the first time I read one of your posts. :)
I always found shooting patched round balls were easiest to load and shot the most consistently but there isn't as much lead as with a maxi or plains bullet so I can see the need for more lead for knockdown oomppf.

In Texas as long as you load it from the muzzle it doesn't seem to matter whether it is smooth bore or rifled. Can't use one of the new fangled "in-line" shooters during muzzle loading season.
Don't know about the legalities up in blizzard country.
