Boy its a Beaut! Haven't had time or proper ammunition purchased to begin wringing it out. I still have to select and purchase a low power 20mm objective scope for it to complete my plans for a all-round do about anything rifle. One thing I hope....that it shoots as good as it looks! There is that undefined something about lever actions, stainless steel does not detract from this in the least! I can't wait to try Hornadys Leverevolution 30-30's when I get my scope.

Congrats, I've seen a couple in Texas gunshops and know how nice they look. I have a Weaver 3x on my Winchester .30-30 and a 4x Redfield on my Marlin 336. Always worked well for me.
When you shoot that new Hornady ammo be sure to tell us what you think. I've read about it, can't wait to get home and try some in my guns.

Is it a 336XTR or a 336SS?

Just a plain 336. Sorry about no pics, since my divorce a camera has not been high on my list of items to replace. I do need to get another, not having one is a severe handicap if attempting to sell something on the 'net.

Ah yes divorce. Another word for loose all the stuff you liked just because.

Texasalien, wherabouts you live in FT Worth? You heard of Springtown? On highwy 199, sometimes called Jacksboro road? My sister and family live just off 199, four or five miles on your side of Springtown. I spent the Christmas holidays there.

You'll have to find a girlfriend with a good camera! Nice rifle. Every American should own at least one 30/30.

That's on my wishlist also.:)

Eljay, the choice was made easy when seeing the price asked for drug behind the truck, rode hard and put up wet overpriced well abused blued models around here. Apparently taking care of a lever gun just doesn't seem a top priority. I did some shopping and found that dealer cost on the SS was not THAT much more than a top of the line blued 336. About $75 to be exact. Soooo...

You don't see many of the S.S. 336 rifles for sale unless they have the laminated stock in the 336XLR configuration. I'm sort of partial to the looks of walnut.

Nice looking rifle, Demented. I've been wanting to get a Marlin lever gun. Just haven't decided on the caliber, 30-30, 45-70, or the 308 Marlin Express. I'd probably go with the 308 if there was reloading equipment and info available. I don't think there is, yet.

Hmmm. There is a Transitional Model Marlin 336 chambered in .30-30, manufactured in 1948, at the shop that I've been looking at for a while. I haven't cleaned it up yet. I'm afraid that if I get into it I will buy it.

I'm curious, Popeye, what's a Transitional Model Marlin? (Answering this may get you into the gun, and you need another gun.)

A Marlin M336 Transitional Model contains a collection of M30 parts and M336 parts and a pre micro groove barrel. The M30 was the forerunner to the M336. This one has a soild topped receiver (no D&T).
