Just a trivial pursuit type question, but are the Colt 70 and 80 Series named for the decade of production?
I haven't noticed nor have I been looking so I am wondering if the above is true, why haven't I seen a 90 Series?

The 90 series covers 1991a1, Double Eagles, for sure and possilbly others in the mix. The 90 series actually released in 1988 don't remember off hand when the 70& 80 series were first released.

My Government Model was bought in early 1984, but I hadn't kept up on any Colt announcements that the Mark IV 80 Series roll impressed on the slide was due to a "decade change", that is the end of the 1970's.
Has anyone seen any Government Model 1911's with slides marked as Mark IV Series 90? And here we are deep into 2008. What then?
