I read an article he wrote about that gunfight not long ago. Well-thought-out stuff.

Some one needs to save that site in Tombstone.
Very cheesy for something of that historical importance.

will46,
Was that a paper article or online? If online, got a link?
Thanks.

It was a paper article. I'll have to look for it. Maybe a recent magazine, possibly "Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement"

I'll tell you what!, if I had been in that gunfight I would have had at least two revolvers,(maybe three:)) because in a situation like that!!, reloading would be out of the question:down:, I think the fight only lasted something like 45 seconds, Nate

Because of the "commercialization" level attained in Tombstone in the past few years, it has been notified that its "historical status" and the benefits derived from it are in danger of being revoked. From what I read some months back, many of the buildings are, or have been, refurbished and have been done in such manner that it resembles a "western side-show".
My wife and I took our grandson to Tombstone and stayed in Benson, AZ. for the 3-day weekend over the 4th of July in 2003. I'd been to Tombstone a couple of times previous (2001, 2002) and the "tourist trap" atmosphere, which is the city's life blood, was in full swing with 3 daily "gunfights" conducted by 3 different crews who could best be described as mostly alcoholic refugees from the carnival life. Just too much "t-shirt & sovenier" glitz taking over the main street and avenue stores.
There is still a preponderous amount of history and associated buildings there and I truely hope the folks get the situation under control. I'm amazed at the numbers of private residents and "bungelow dwellers" (artists and crafts folks) who actually reside in the town. It's a 745 mile drive from my house in Fountain Valley, CA. but I love the trip and the Best Western in Benson is really, nice as is the town, a farm community. The best 4th of July fireworks show by a town that I've ever seen and the gray-blue tarantula's running around act like "pets".
