Ok all you fellow 9mm fans...lets stand up and be counted. (Ok...you .40 & .45 guys can come in also and peak! :P ) Actually let's have you .357/38sp guys too...since you're cousins by .002 of an inch! Hell you .380 guys come warm yourself by the fire too!
I will be purchasing a new Ruger KP95 9mm in a couple weeks and have shot this model extensively in the past. Very reliable (no failures when I had a couple of 'em about 4 years back). Very accurate (one ragged hole in the 10x at 7yds/21 feet and darn near that at 15 yrd/45feet off hand) 15+1 cap and the felt recoil is practically unoticeable. This is the Stainless version and I can get it for $320.00 new with two mags.
So what do you got? Stand up and be counted!

9mms???
I have one or two. The one I actually wear the most is a Browning HP, newer version with adj. sights. Adj. sights that I can actually see. :) :)
Then there is an older BHP with the itty bitty sights. Nice. Love it. Stays in the house mostly. The lower end gets out a fair amount wearing a .22 conversion unit.
A Sig 226 with Crimson Trace lazer grips. Nice. Accurate. On consignment with my favorite dealer. Great gun, just not my cup of tea.
A Browning BDA (Sig 220). I really like this gun. Accurate, feeds everything I've ever tried. Used it to qualify for my first CHL. But if I were to carry the Sig 220 in a 9mm, it'd be the BDA in .38 Super.
Colt 1911 Series 70. Really fun to shoot and for an older, box stock Colt, surprisingly accurate (if you can handle the itty bitty sights). While it is fun to shoot, mostly I keep this gun "just cuz".
In the "just cuz" catagory I have two S&W 9mms. A 39-2 and a Model 59. These are not noted for accuracy. Adequate for social work, but not great for putting camp meat in the pot. The Model 39 was the 1st American DA semi-auto, and broke the revolver monopoly with a major police agency. The Model 59 was the first American made "wonder 9". I keep (and occassionally use) these two for much the same reason I think every American should own a Colt SAA and Winchester lever action. They are just a piece of history.
If I were to pick a carry 9mm, then the Browning HP will continue to do me just fine. Mostly I favor my Kimber Compact in 45 ACP or my old S&W Model 38 - and don't see a lot of reason to change.
I would like to have one of the new S&W semi-autos in 9mm. The Model 952 would be nice, but for grins - when I hit the lottery - I'd really love the Performance Center 952 Long Slide. :) :)

Think the S&W model 39 was first put on the streets by the ILlinois State Police.
I have four 9's - maybe a couple more stored somewhere around the country: Browning High Power (think that's mandatory), CZ-75, Glock 17 and a P-38.
May still have a Luger stored in Pa.; have to check next r&r.

I don't own any of the listed calibers anymore, but in the past .....
Glock 17 L
Glock 19
S&W 5906
Star 28M
S&W 940
Colt Commander 9mm
Thats all in 9mm (I think)
Also had the following 38Specials and 357 Magnums
Ruger Blackhawk
Ruger Speed Six (I think that was the model)
S&W 686
S&W 627
S&W 60 (set up for PPC)
S&W 64
S&W 52-1 (Budroe, they are great target guns but that is about all. VERY Pricy too)
Now if we include 38 Super which is a .356" bullet I have had 5 different ones but still own one of them
Para-Ord 38 Super (I still have this one, built from lots of different parts manufacturers)
Colt 38 Super (1964 vintage I think)
Springfield Armory 1911 (race gun built up off a 9mm gun)
Springfield Armory 1911 Ramped barrel, Heinie Sights and I hand checkered almost everything.
Springfield Armory and left it stock (it ended up as trading material)
My son has a IMI baby eagle in 9mm that shoots great.

You are correct. Began the change over in 1966. I came along much later but carried an old 39-2 for a long time loaded with the ISPs +P+ ammunition. That old ammo really barked and I never felt undergunned.
Alas I no longer own a parabellum though I give safespace to a 380 and a 9X18

I might admit having something chambered in 9mm Luger in the safe somewhere :D . BHP, Jericho 941 FB, Armalite AR 24, Sig P6, SigPro 2009, CZ 75B, Radom Viz35 and a Kimber ProCarryII.
There are some "other semi-auto 9s" in there, too, chambered in 9mm Kurtz, Mak and Largo. Then there's the old Colt series 70 Government model in 38 Super (a long 9?). Don't have a 357 Sig anymore.
Yep, 9 is one of my 3 favorite pistol cartridges, along with 40 S&W and 45 ACP. :D

One of the reasons I picked up the Model 39 - aside from it's historical significance - was a young man that shot with a club I was with in Fairbanks.
We started an IPSC group and Doug was a bit stubborn about his Model 39. Most of the rest of us settled on the .45 ACP, mostly because it made major so easily. Doug was a handloader and by golly his 9mm made major at each and every match.
Someone with a bit of skill and a welding torch made a steel pendulum that we used to measure loads. It was calibrated with military surplus .45 ACP ball. Any load that would move the pendulum that far, or better, was major, anything less was minor.
I don't know what the life was for brass that Doug used. My guess was short. How-some-ever, he never failed to make major for any official match. Most of the rest of us would stand (far) back when Doug was on the line - but that Model 39 never bobbled.
I was impressed, and picked up the Model 39 that I now have - as much in tribute to the little pistol that Doug used - as in tribute to it's historical significance.
It wouldn't be my pick for a squirrel gun for camp meat - but they are tough little handguns. And they will handle loads that easily qualify them as adequate defensive arms.

Oh definitely get that CCW...when I was in Rochester NY I didn't even think of it (we were there for 1.5 years) Now in IN I will happily get my CCW and carry everywhere I possibly can!! All I need to do is wait for the next paycheck, get that P95 and then drive to every damn Walmart I can and hopefully find a few boxes of 9mm ball. Yeah...I'll break down and go to a gun store and get something aside from ball...ok that's next paycheck!

While I'm NOT generally in the "cheerleading section" for the 9mm Parabellum, it has it's place. I am STILL waiting for my Kel-Tec SUB 2000 in 9mm (that should make for a dandy little "apartment rifle"!
I have a Zastava M88A (made in Serbia). This is a single-action pistol chambered for the 9mm Parabellum cartridge. I have kept this on hand for my "take out the trash" pistol that i slide into my waistband every thursday night! This little blue steel, Tokarev clone pistol has a 3 1/2" barrel, a magazine disconnect safety, as well as a safety on the slide. I bought it last year for about $260. The price for new Zastava M88A pistols has incrased nearly $100.00 since then! These aren't designed to accept +P ammunition, but that's okay. The way I have it figured, 8+1 rounds of standard-pressure 9mm rounds should be sufficient to "terminate the threat."
It is fun to shoot, and ammunition costs needn't "eat me alive."

I have a 9mm,38super, 38 spl, 357 mag, 44 spl and 45 acp and they all work great for what I got them for. If I could only have one would most likely hang onto the 44 spl and 255 grain bullets. You are not going to feel to good if hit and will most likely not want a second dose. My 9mm uses 147gr hp LEO rounds, 38 super uses 125-160 grain hp rounds, 38/357 get 158 gr hp rounds and the 45 gets 230hp rounds.
