I just got an 1851 Confederate Navy .44 from Cabelas. Nice and tight and feels good. I got it to go with my .54 CVA Mountain Rifle. They make a nice pair. I plan to go period as a trapper or scout at a local rondevuos if I can find one.
I haven't shot the pistol yet, but am looking forward to it.:D

DANGER!!! that .44 has a huge flaw in it. . .It is VERY VERY dangerous to shoot. . . It has injured quite a few people. . .

If you want me to fix it, You can mail it to me, and I will fix the flaw for you. . . It will take about 2 years turn around. (Big recalls make be busy ;))

But I will take really good care of it for you. ;)

Sorry Dwayne, I'm a smithy myself and can fix most anything on it, BUT, if you're VERY, VERY nice, I might let you borrow it if you'll let me borrow your '58 Remmy!:aok::bible_1:

The biggest problem with being period correct is that there was no such thing as a .44 cal 1851 Navy in the day, but that certainly won't detract from the fun of shooting it.

I shot one in competition many years ago and really enjoyed it. Worked quite well for me. The balance made it easy to concentrate on let-off and not have to wrestle to keep the sights from wandering. As I recall, I did not shoot full charges much, since the sights are regulated for 50 yards.
The only disadvantage of the 51 is that it is not cut to use elongated bullets. It would not be a big job to modify it if you were so inclined.

OK guys (and gals), my son and I went hunting at the management area Sat, and theres a range there. And guess what, I finally got to shoot my '51 Navy. I forgot my powder measure, (a .38 Spl case, appx 22gr) so I had to improvise and found a .40 S&W case. Whatever it held didn't have much recoil but was able to shoot around a 6" group a 25 yds. Had no problems with it and all I can say is "What A Hoot!!!!" I can't wait till I can get to a range where I can shoot with other people of like intrest. More later!!:D

Fantastic Don! 6"group at 25 is wonderful for a pistol. . . I would hate to compete against you! I think I would have 6 foot groups at 25!

LIke I said before. . .That pistol has a manufacturing defect on it. . . You should send it to me for repairs. . .. <chuckle>
