Getting a forum like this going takes time and patience. The more stuff that we have posts about (self defense with guns, mace, pepper spray, stun guns, etc.), the more likely that this forum will come up in a web search and the more likely that new members will come here and join up.
I think that this forum is off to a great start and we just need to keep the topics current.

No apologies necessary, MamaC! I was just feeling frustrated and thinking "what more can be done?", but Sir Knight's reassurance helped immensely! :)

Many of us guys are interested in the female perspective on issues. It is always helpful to now how others perceive things. Ladies please post away.

 I think that is exactly right especially those of us that have wives, daughters or girlfriends or will have. (that pretty much covers most of us).

I have noticed that men (salesmen, husbands, boyfriends) have an annoying tendency to steer women toward the "Ladies guns", the little micro pistols. But to me, a knowledgeable woman is more likely to buy a .40 or .45 as often as anything smaller. I also noticed that women have an easier time racking the slide on a full size auto than they do the mouse guns. So when a husband or a boyfriend starts pushing the toys and the ladies balk at it, I suggest they both try to rack the slide on the mini, (and often even the man has trouble with it) then try a full size duty pistol. The size, ease of operation and simplicity of Glocks, XDs and M&Ps really appeal to them.
Can you ladies give me your input on this, and how best to assist a lady in getting her first gun, often in the face of the know it all male advisor she brought along, or the self deprecating attitude that she needs to bring a man in to help her decide? I know that guns, and of course dealing with salesmen can be intimidating to first time buyers. And I have nothing against a woman wanting a "pretty" gun and many are, as long as they get what's best for them and not the cutesy toy that is stereotyped in so many people's minds. Tell me, how I can help you decide on the right gun if you walked into my store.

Debbie doesn't sign on as often as she'd like, but she appreciates what I can pass on to her between her visits to the Ranch.

I was looking for a backup and was looking at a mouse semi. I already have a full size Mauser. I can rack it easily. The mousegun was so hard to rack I went with a revolver.
As for how to help me select. Take a couple of minutes to talk to me. See what I want the new gun for. Notice if I have small or average hands. Then make suggestions but don't push. Defiantly never turn your back on me after you have started talking to me to attend to another customer. (If I am just looking and someone else comes in I will tell you to go ahead and wait on the other customer)
If a lady walks in and asks a question.... don't respond to the guy who came in with her. And if the gent and the lady are discussing something, WAIT until they're finished before you try to "sell" something.

This just sounds like common sense to me. BUT I've seen it happen. Some clerks are just stupid.
