Which to Choose - Case Gard or Tipton
Anyone familar with Cheaper Than Dirt catalog has seen the Case Gard "Gunsmith's Maintenence Center" cradle and Tipton's "Best Gun Vise", bench top fixtures for holding long firearms while cleaning or working on them. Both fixtures are on Page 58 of the latest catalog. Case Gard runs $29.97 and Tipton is $99.97.
I know one is really only good for holding guns during cleaning or light work (Case Gard) while the other is a vise for heavier maintenance (Tipton). Anybody have "actual experience" with either of these "must have" impliments? I tend toward the more expensive Tipton, but most of my work is cleaning oriented. I will have to mount three (3) scopes in the near future so I think the "vise" is nice....er! Or should I just get BOTH? |

I have used this Tipton product for many years and for all gunsmithing jobs.

Now hold on! The Tipton product you were kind enough to attach in your response is $60. rounded up. The one I am staring at in the "Cheaper Than Dirt" catalog is $40 more, but it has a mid-bed vertical detail (AR rifle adapter holding feature) that appears to be removable. Hmmmmm.
Now a smart fella, like me, would delve a bit deeper into the Tipton site link you provided, wouldn't I? I'll be back in a flash! |

Whew! Made it. OK...the Standard Vise is $60 and the Best Gun Vise is $130, according to the Tipton site.
Sooooo....Cheaper Than Dirt has the Best Vise PLUS Case Gard Maintenance Center for the SAME PRICE as Tipton advertises their Best Vise! Now what?......decisions ....decisions. You'd think a smart fella, like me, could make one......hmmmmmm. |

Proof that it will stand up to hard use.
